The Road Ahead

Nov 10, 2009

Last night we got to spend some time with Billy Bob, in preparation for the months to follow on this new journey he’s taking us on. He met with the doctor that Mary recommended in Wheeling yesterday and seemed pretty pleased with the doc and his nurses. It’s great that we have an inside man with Mary at the hospital because she can give us the scoop on everything that’s happening as well.

What we know right now is that he will be doing a pretty intense version of chemotherapy. Starting Monday morning, he will be admitted for three days with eight hours of treatments each of those days. I’m a little fuzzy on the rest of the details, but I believe he’s off for two weeks before he goes in for another three days. Sounds like a crazy cycle to me.

After a couple months of that, Billy will be admitted to the hospital in Morgantown, where he will be an in-patient anywhere between nine and thirty days. For those of you wondering, Morgantown is only about an hour away and we can totally go and see him as much as possible — given that the hospital will even let us in. When I get Billy here on Monday, I’ll grill him for more information about the names of the treatments he will be receiving and maybe do some research for those interested in exactly what he’ll be going through.

We pretty much have his living arrangements figured out, Mary and I will be doing some shopping to get him set up with a bed, couch, etc. The house he’s moving into doesn’t have any furniture in it, so we’ll need to get him set up sometime this week so he doesn’t come back from a three day hospital visit to have to sleep on the floor. 🙂

Bennett said to me this morning that Billy must have a lot of that stubborn Boltze blood that I’ve got as well. (I must admit, I tried to argue with him that I’m not stubborn, haha.) He’s going through a pretty crazy, life changing event and is seemingly upbeat and doesn’t seem to have lost his smile or that twinkle in his eye. If only everyone could be as strong and brave as my big bro.

I'm glad that Billy will be close to family while he's going through this next round. I'm sure it will make both of you feel better.

Mary and David are absolutely amazing people…

Love and prayers to all, Aunt Vicki
