So you may have noticed that there was a break in posts and this time it was not due to sheer laziness. We were kinda busy. (Just kinda though.)
We had a baby!! Woohoo!! The day finally came.
On August 19, 2010 at 4:12 pm we were graced with the presence of the newest member of our family. Louis Brock McKinley was born 7lb, 12oz and measured in at 20 inches. And he is simply perfect. As you can see by this picture, we were all incredibly tired but happy. Happy and in love.
We spent two full days in the hospital because they won’t release you until 48-hours after the baby is born. I felt like I lost several days of my life because I had no idea what day/time it was during the entire stay in my hospital room. Between trying to figure out the whole parenting thing and getting poked and prodded every twenty minutes by the hospital staff I was lucky to know my own name by the end of it.
I have to say that the hospital staff at OVMC was amazing. Everybody was incredibly helpful, nice and informative and our family certainly enjoyed having people around whenever we had questions. Upon release yesterday, Bennett and I were nervous to drive away from the hospital because we didn’t have all of those professionals surrounding us. It was a big smack in the face that we actually were parents and had to figure this stuff out on our own.
But seriously…everything is worth figuring out when it’s for a face like this. Isn’t he simply amazing?
Oh…and I have to share this picture. It is literally the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. Bennett is the best daddy and partner that we could ask for and he has done everything for us. During the entire labor process, Bennett was by my side. During the middle of the night feedings when I was getting really frustrated, Bennett was right next to me being encouraging. Whenever Louis had a dirty diaper, Bennett was right there to change it. I am so lucky in life and in love.
We had kind of a rough night last night – but I suppose that everybody’s first night home is rough. Between Louis’ cry-fests and our delusional ‘new parent’ moments, the three of us were probably all on the verge of a mental breakdown. We pulled through it together though and faced today with a new outlook. It’s funny how easy days are to get through but nights are awful. I’m hoping that tonight proves to be a little better than last night and we continue to figure everything out.
Until then, keep us in your positive thoughts. Bennett and I now fully understand what all those parents were talking about. 🙂
