Doctor’s Visit & A Wedding

On Tuesday we took our little bug to the doctor for his one month checkup and it went fabulously.  Dr. Mark said he is beautiful (I knew that, of course) and that he is exactly where he needs to be.  Louis weighed in at 8lb 14oz and measured at 21 1/2 inches.  My baby is growing!  I’m completely torn between wanting him to stay tiny forever and being excited about the growing and changing he’s about to encounter for the rest of his life.  Can I have both??

We had to laugh because Dr. Mark gave us the percentiles that Louis is measured against with people at his age.  Apparently his weight and length are in the 25-percentile and his head is in the 75-percentile.  Here I am complaining because I can’t find a hat small enough for his tiny head and apparently he’s got a big ole’ noggin!  (Must be for all of those brains.)  The doctor explained that we really shouldn’t pay attention to the percentiles as of yet.  He only uses them to get a trend for Louis’ growth – at this young it’s not essential, we will pay more attention once he’s closer to 18 months.

We picked up Bennett’s sister Amy from the airport on Tuesday evening.  She is helping out with McKinley for Congress for the week – plus I think it was her excuse to come into town and gush all over her new nephew.  Louis hasn’t gotten to snuggle and kiss his aunt as much as he’d like yet so he’s really hoping to be able to spend some more time with her.  Hopefully we can make that happen for him.

Yesterday we headed to Christian Klay Winery in Chalk Hill, Pennsylvania for a wedding.  Bennett’s friend from high school and former roommate got married to his sweetheart in a very sweet and beautiful setting in a vineyard.  We brought the kiddo with us because, let’s face it, I’m not ready to leave him with anyone besides Bennett quite yet.  IMG_1965

We, of course, needed to get a picture in with the grapes.  It was too pretty not to.

Louis was truly a champ through the entire evening.  He didn’t make a peep during the ceremony and basically slept through the entire reception.  I was dancing in high heels with my baby in my arms most of the night and it was so much fun.  Bennett and I made sure to tear up the dance floor, haha.  I had a lady come up and ask me if I ran out of people to hold my baby and that she would take him so I could dance.  Kind of a strange thing to ask someone you don’t know.  “Sure, you can hold my baby, woman I’ve never met before.  Go right ahead.”  Yeah right.

And trust me, we had plenty of people that would have held Louis had I asked.  Our friend Katie was pretty much hovering over him the minute we pulled up to the wedding site.  She loves the little guy and lives in DC now so she snatches him up at any opportunity she gets.  🙂

Here’s a great group shot of Bennett, me and our friends.  Most of these kids grew up with Bennett in Wheeling and it was really great to spend some time with them, as well as celebrate the marriage of Jeff & Jessica Joltes.  Congrats you two!!IMG_2000

    Katy, since your a crafty person you might like this idea. When Nathan was a baby I put stars on a growth chart at each check up and put it in his scrap book. It was fun to track it that way. I never got around to doing it on Z's scrapbook. Poor kid has very few pictures in his still too. Z was 50th percentile all the way. Nathat was 95th in length and 5th in weight. Long and skinny.
    Louis is beautiful! Don't stop taking him places! We take our kids everywhere and they are often the only kids with manners. I think it is because we have always included them and they know what is expected of them. (though now that they are older they would prefer to stay home with a sitter sometimes). great job Mommy!
