Summer Dress | “I Made It” Monday

Jun 6, 2011

I’m pretty sure that I’ve mentioned how much I LOVE creative people and creative things before but I’m going to say it again.  I LOVE CREATIVITY!  It just feels good to have made something myself, rather than buy it from a store.  Usually my gifts are handmade and I feel like, even if it’s something small, it shows that I cared enough to take time and make something special just for them.  Who’s with me on this?

Anyway, I was thinking about ‘spicing’ this blog up by making a weekly discovery of things people have made themselves.  What will we call it??

made it monday

That works, right? 🙂

I haven’t wrangled anyone in quite yet to be featured on this page, so I thought I would start with showing all of you what I did over the weekend.  I have been BOUND and DETERMINED to wear summer dresses all season long but I don’t want to pay for them.  I want to make them!  I will admit to not being the greatest seamstress around so I wanted something quick and easy and simple.  I think I accomplished just that!

Here is my first attempt at a wing-it summer dress.  There are plenty of things that I need to fix when I go to make my next dress, but I’m pretty pleased with the outcome.

The first picture was taken by my husband last night after I put in my last stitch.  Can you tell that it was a Sunday night and a very muggy weekend?  I’m not sure I could I look less put together than I was!  The second picture is of me this morning. 🙂  I love the fact that I can buy a couple of yards of fabric and make something work-wearable in just an hour-or-so!  I also decided that my outfit wouldn’t be complete without something made of yarn…shown by the tiny white flower I pinned in my hair.  Haha.

Would you like to be featured on this website for something you’ve made?  If so, email me:  I’m hoping to have a featured crafter every Monday and I would love to show off your talents!  Big or small, I want to display them all. 🙂

Happy Monday!
