If you’re a follower on my Facebook page, you might have seen this little gem already. It’s cute and simple and so worth sharing.
My husband {Bennett McKinley Photography} was hired for a ‘cake smash’ photography session for a little guy’s 1st birthday photos. The little man’s mom wanted a Mickey Mouse themed session and I had the super talented Kayla {Kayla’s Creative Collection} create the outfit for us: suspenders, diaper cover, bow tie and ears. It was ADORABLE.
It was missing something though…we needed background. I had a ton of burlap laying around, begging to be used for something and I figured this would be a better time than not. Thus, the banner was born!!
I like burlap for a few reasons:
- It is appropriate for so many different color schemes.
- It’s easy to work with.
- If I want to crudely cut something, he’s my guy.
- Stringing twine or something thicker through is it a PIECE OF CAKE.
I grabbed two different colors of scrap fabric, cut simple hearts, {sloppily} stitched around the edges for a basic applique and then let her rip. I think it turned out pretty sweetly, don’t you?
