Happy Birthday, Maddie!

Apr 22, 2013

This blog is about to be taken over by a ridiculously cute redhead.  And it’s not me this time…..haha.  Please humor me by pretending for a moment that I’d fit into that description.

We were in Morgantown on Saturday afternoon, to celebrate sweet little Maddie’s 1st birthday.  Her dad (Jeff) joked that we were simply celebrating the fact that they were able to keep her alive for a year.  Which is how I’ve often felt about Louis, with all of the spills, illnesses and general ohmygodhowcanwesurvivethis moments that parents have to go through.

Every time we have a party with the Joltes family, they take me somewhere in Morgantown that I never knew existed.  I lived there for four years and apparently only went to class, Best Buy and the bars.  (Don’t tell my mom I said that last part.)  This time around, we were at a gorgeous park on the top of a hill with an awesome playground area for the kiddos.  Minus a little pesky wind, it was a perfect location for a birthday party.

Jess (Maddie’s momma) did not disappoint with the decorations.  She’d made the sweetest pinwheels and there was pink everywhere.  Is pink a theme?  I think I’m going to call the theme of the party “Pink”. 🙂  Things you can totally get away with when you have a little girl is putting pink e.v.e.r.y.w.h.e.r.e.  Totally legit.  And adorable.

Can we talk about the cupcakes for a minute?  I could have eaten like a million of them myself.  They were even super crunchy…in the way that they were vegan and gluten-free.  Holy crap, amazing.  And I loved her individual cake with the little polka-dotted candle.

I still don’t think it’s fair that when I eat cupcakes and get it alllll over my face, no one finds it endearing.  But when Maddie does it?  She’s so freaking cute!!

Allow me to sneak in a few pictures of the handsome men in my life.  Louis was also a fan of the cupcakes, but mostly licked the frosting off of it and then handed me the smashed bottom parts.

I love that Bennett still remains close with so many of his friends from high school.  It helps that we are in the same town he grew up in (even if his friends are in different cities currently) but it’s still amazing to see these boys have a strong bond with each other.

Isn’t this family sugar sweet?  They’re also really good at hosting parties.  They come up with the best games and I loved that they had an entire basket full of things for the kids that were invited to the party.  It was full of toys, sidewalk chalk, bubbles and dress-up stuff.  I’m totally stealing this idea for the next party we have.

And now…onto pictures of the Birthday Girl looking adorable and “opening” her birthday presents.

Let me interrupt this moment to show how our toddler acted during the opening of the gifts. 🙂  Oh boy…how do you explain to a 2-year old that he doesn’t always get to be the receiver of presents?  We had a mild breakdown.  No obnoxious shouting or temper tantrums, but a lot of sobbing and saying “my presents” over and over again.

Kiddo, you will have your turn soon enough.  Actually, too soon.  And then Momma will be the one sobbing because she’s realizing her baby won’t stop growing up and stay little forever.

Okay…back to the happy side of the party.

All in all, it was a beautiful day.  The party was great, the food was fabulous and we had an amazing time visiting with our friends.  And of course, celebrating the life of sweet little Madeline.

I feel like it was just yesterday when we were heading to Morgantown to attend her baby shower.  How does time continue to go by so fast?  It’s really not working for me.  Someone needs to invent me a pause button.
