It’s like Mother Nature has finally decided to give us a little bit of a break. Winter was weird and hardly winter and now that spring is supposed to be here, cold weather is holding on with all of it’s might. If you scroll down your newsfeed on Facebook, at least one of your friends is probably complaining about it.
Last Saturday, you were not finding the McKinley trio and pups complaining at all. In fact, the only thing you could find us doing was playing in the woods. It’s that perfect time of year when you can explore and not be eaten alive by bugs or sweat to death. Early spring, I super puffy heart you!
Granted, I am looking forward to prettier colors than the browns that we were seeing, but there were very promising buds all over the trees and ground. Little previews of what is to come in the next few months. Bennett was even able to pick some little baby-sized ramps and include them in our stew that evening. Holy crap were they strong smelling (but still delicious!).
I know it’s going to shock you when I say this, but I’ll say it anyway: we threw rocks into the creek. A whole lot of them. And King Louis sat on his cute little tush and demanded his parents continue to collect rocks for him to throw. (It was sweet, so we of course obliged.)
I’d like to stop and take a moment to thank the Universe for giving me such a handsome duo of males in my little family. One is a little less hairy than the other but they’re both equally of heartthrob status in my book. Doesn’t Bennett look like the ultimate mountain man in this picture? 🙂
We made the attempt with a family photo. Attempt. The first two we took, Louis wasn’t looking and the dogs jumped into the picture. As soon as we stopped trying to pose, Louis yelled out ‘cheeeeese’ and smiled for the camera. *sigh*
As for the dogs? They very much so enjoyed their exploring time. George Michael is such an active little guy when we are outside. He could probably run for hours on end, only pausing long enough to try and eat something disgusting or roll in whatever animal carcass he’s come across. Maeby is much different. She’s always relatively close to either her Momma or Daddy. She’s always been a ‘by your side’ kind of dog and she’s such a sweetheart.
I’ll leave you with some pictures of my stinker and me. Sometimes we are lucky enough to get a cooperative 2-year old who is willing to actually smile for the camera with you. And sometimes, we get a 2-year old that likes to try and lick your face. I’ll take both versions, really.
Rumor has it that this coming weekend is supposed to be gorgeous. At least Saturday will be? And I’m hoping that it holds true. This girl wants more outside playtime!!
