A Day for Julia

One of the perks of being married to such a great guy is that he also has really great friends.  Bennett and Julia have known each other for forever now, I believe since they attended Montessori together.  And since we are all old farts now, that was a million years ago. 🙂

Julia and her fiancé Luke are just darling and will be getting married at the end of September.  And guess what?!  Bennett and I were hired as the photographers!  Whoop whoop!  Can’t wait!  To start the celebrations of their upcoming marriage, Julia’s friends and family had an entire day of wedding festivities in Julia’s honor this past Saturday.  And the lucky gal that I am, I got to attend and enjoy the beautiful day.

I pretty much spent the entire bridal shower swooning over e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g.  Everything.  Seriously.  It was held at Luke’s grandmother’s house and holy cow is her house beautiful.  It is so full of life, stories and color and I almost asked if they were willing to take in a new roommate.

The food was provided by the handsome groom-to-be and I’m pretty sure if Julia admitted she was only marrying him for his cooking abilities, no one would hold it against her.  Not one bit.  I know Bennett and I drool over everything he’s ever cooked for us and there was absolutely no disappointment this time around either.  Yum!

I’m always jealous of people who are able to put together such a flawless display.  Even the dessert table was full of antiques, family photos and the most beautiful treats ever.  So good!

Julia shares my never-ending devotion for the color purple and the party hosts infused it really well into the décor.  I’ve never had lavender cupcakes before but now that I have, I want more.  And then some more.  I also really loved that there was some fragrant lavender tied with ribbon to Julia’s chair.  Details like that just floor me.

As the guests, we were given some fun back-stories behind the settings we were using.  Some of which were wedding china from various generations of Luke’s family members.  I’m a sucker for a good “this belonged to my so and so from such and such date” story.  Gets me every time.

Isn’t Julia adorable?  We got a sneak peek of her gown from photos taken during her fitting and I cannot wait to see it in person!  She’s going to be gorgeous!

Can we talk for a moment about how much pressure there is behind being the bride during a bridal shower?  I remember sweating and being a ball of nerves while opening my gifts.  I was the same during my baby shower.  I wanted to make sure I gave everyone the proper ‘thank you’ and was overwhelmed by love, gifts and cameras going off in my face.

Apparently Julia is so not like me.  Cool as a cucumber, this one.  She worked it!

fter the gifts and this incredibly different and neat version of a guestbook sighing, I snuck in a couple of obligatory photos.  I wasn’t there to be a photographer but I couldn’t help but get all of these (and a bunch more I’m not posting).  A girl can never have too many pictures of her bridal shower, right?

After the fancy party ended, the gal pals all changed into less formal clothes and went out for cocktails and appetizers at a local joint.  Then…the real fun began.  We headed to our final destination to kick off Julia’s “Hen Party”. 

There were drinks to be had.  And laughter.  There was a lot of laughter to be had.  I had so much fun with these girls.  No surprise…I always do. 

Julia, I am so happy for you and Luke.  Thank you for having me be a part of this special day and for allowing us (and trusting in us) to capture “the” big day.  It’s an honor and we love you both so much.

{Before I end this monstrous post full of pictures and endless babbling…can we talk for a second?  Why do I look like such a giant in this picture?  There are a series of these and I look like I’m 6-feet tall.  Are you ladies that much shorter than me or did I have a late-in-life growth spurt?!  Sheesh!}
