Same Faces, 10 Years Older.

Aug 27, 2013

Saturday was my 10-year high school reunion.  That’s right, folks.  I am a proud member of the Reed City High School Class of 2003.  And when the reunion date was set, I immediately let my work know that I would need the days surrounding it off so I could travel to Michigan to celebrate and catch up with old friends.

I’m so glad I went, too.  I haven’t laughed so hard in a long time.  Seriously…my cheeks hurt from smiling so much.  I was originally disappointed to hear that only a very small handful of people were actually attending but now I’m thinking that maybe that was for the better.  I got a lot of one-on-one time with some people I haven’t seen in FOREVER.  Totally worth the 8-hour drive north.

And even though it’s been ten years, every year that August 24 hits I can’t help but think of our three classmates that share the same birthday.  Because it happened to fall on our reunion date and two out of the three came to the reunion, I schemed with Jessica (a former classmate and insanely good baker) to make some cupcakes to celebrate both birthdays AND 10-years gone.

Holy cow were they delicious!!  Thank you so much for your handiwork, Jessica!

Reunions are probably so much different now than they are for older generations that don’t have the social media side of things.  I’ve e-stalked the crap out of my old classmates via Facebook so when I met their significant others on Saturday, I felt like I’d already met them forever ago.  And we kind of all knew each other’s happenings so it cut out the whole “this is what I’ve been doing for the past ten years” crap and kind of just made everything a little more relaxed.

There is one exception to this group of people.  I will allow them to remain unnamed but we have two classmates that got married, had one adorable little boy AND are expecting their second child and I had NO IDEA because they aren’t on Facebook for me to keep up with their lives.  If you’re reading this blog somehow…you know who you are.  And I still may fulfill my promise/threat of making a fake page just to pretend I know what’s happening in your lives.  You’ve been warned. 🙂

As always, I’m grateful to have Bennett by my side.  It’s not fair that people are always telling me how much they love Bennett…I feel like I’m the way less cooler half of the McKinley equation.  I’ll get working on my coolness.  Haha…or not.

On Sunday, we decided to keep the party going by involving our children in the get-together.  So many of my friends have had babies since we’ve graduated and I’ve not met hardly any of them.  Basically, the last four years of baby-having has been missed by me because of the distance between West Virginia and Michigan.

A picnic in the park was the best way to solve this lack of baby-time situation.  So glad we decided to do it!

It’s fun to see the second generation of friends getting along so well.  Louis and Carter (my friend Tara’s little one) have Facetime chatted a few times but never met in life.  I think they were insta-besties.

It was also nice because a couple of the girls that weren’t able to attend the reunion on Saturday made the trip to Rambadt Park to see us on Sunday.  Maybe I didn’t get to see everyone that I was hoping to, but I got an amazing chunk of time with some of my bff’s from high school and that made this girl pretty freaking satisfied.

By the way, I think I only have hot friends.  I mean, really.  You girls are gorgeous!

And last but not least, a picture of the majority of the kiddos together.  I always love a good “behind the scenes” shot.  The chaos that goes into getting six littles to sit side-by-side for a photo is great.  And then the silliness of the parents making loud noises and trying to get them all to look in the direction of the camera with a smile on their faces…too much. 🙂

But hey.  It worked.  Beautiful group of children, right?

I’m so glad that we made the drive up north.  Now if we could only have a mandatory get-together every year, I’d be the happiest girl ever.

Matt, I honestly didn't see any other pictures from the reunion. My
assumption would be that the next one is in five years. Isn't that how
    it usually works?
