I hate labels.
Why Universe? Why Internet? Why do we need to classify people as something? Why can’t we just be and not have to explain to people who we are by slapping a name on it and getting tossed into a group of people that probably feel incredibly different than us but share semi-similar qualities? So frustrating!
Baby-wearing, cloth diapering, (semi)organic feeding, co-sleeping, and stay-at-home daddying would make me us crunchy parents. And yet we vaccinate, will be public-schooling and eat at McDonalds when the mood is right. So that means that we are mainstream…with a side of crunchy?
We sometimes [often] do things different than the norm but not on purpose. We just do it because it feels right for us and it makes us happy. And we aren’t hurting anyone with our choices. Alternative is I suppose where we will sit. That’s right…we are “alternative parents”. It sounds more like a music genre than parenting, but whatev.
Having Bennett be the parent that stays at home with Louis is probably one of the best choices we’d ever made. It made more sense, he could handle it and he wanted to do it. Boom. Decision made.
Really, I would be content labeling us: Happy. Maybe I’ll start a new internet sensation of a parenting style called ‘Happy Parenting’. It’s all the rage. You should try it!
But seriously, don’t label me. Ever. If you try, I might argue with you f.o.r.e.v.e.r. about it. I don’t like being lumped into ANY political party, religion, lifestyle or even gender role. Because no one really fits 100% into a category but everyone FULLY decides that you’re exactly like the stereotypes that are fulfilled by them.
