Later, Summer.

Sep 2, 2013

I love summer for the long days, beautiful sunny skies and the greenery.  But let’s get something straight: I am not a fan of hot weather.  Never have been, probably never will be.  I would be a happy girl if fall was a year-round thing.  The smells, the colors, the crispness of the afternoons….yes please!!  I love me a good summer dress but really you can wear those during spring and fall so it’d be all good.

September crept up on us.  Time flies when you’re having fun, right?  Time also flies when you’re crazy busy.  This month is going to be another doozie for us with two weddings on back-to-back weekends: one in Washington, DC and another that we are hired to photograph.  Weddings are super fun, so I’m not hating having the end of the month stacked with romance and celebration.  I just know we will be exhausted after.

Today marks the last day of my 10-day work free stretch.  It’s making me sad (and is slightly killing me) to realize that I have to go back to my desk job tomorrow.  It’s not like I’ve been work-free…I’ve been making and filling orders for HE like mad.  But it’s been super nice to have a flexible schedule and be able to work on my business without it sacrificing time with Louis and Bennett.

I also met with an amazing woman in the Ohio Valley that runs an awesome Etsy shop and has become 100% self-employed within the last year.  My shop has been more successful than ever and I’m beginning to think that it’s a viable option for us to start our long-term plan for getting me out of my 8-5 and just be my creative self full time.  It’s really inspiring to meet people that have actually done what you’re wanting to do.  I read all of the “Quit Your Day Job” articles on Etsy’s blog but this is the first time I’ve met and known someone that actually did it.  It makes it seem so much more achievable.

Should I maybe talk about the sword that Louis is holding?  Haha.

We went to Fort Henry Days up at Oglebay Park this past weekend and found this wooden sword to add to Louis’ collection of play things.  I know some parents wouldn’t be encouraging weapons for their kiddos.  And normally I wouldn’t be so keen on it.  But Louis is such a gentle soul that it’s not really an issue for us.  He doesn’t hit people, the dogs or things with it and hardly does any large or wild motions.  Mostly, he holds it out or up and yells some sort of “fight the robots” rhetoric.  Totally cool with me.  He’s using his imagination and being non-violent about it.

That, and he’s being super cute.  As usual.

^^Family selfies are super hard.  Especially with a pancake lens that has a small focal point and TWO members of your family that like to give you a hard time about everything.  We manage somehow.  Turds.

Thanks for all of the fun, Summer 2013.  But I’m looking forward to the craziness of September (and then the out of control holiday season, eep!!) to follow.  I’ve already had a few pumpkin beers….now give me pumpkin EVERYTHINGGGGGGGGGGGG.
