Allow me to introduce you to one of the weirdest and coolest fruits we have growing on our property: PawPaw. We like to refer to them as West Virginia Bananas.
They are the weirdest looking fruit (sometimes looking like something that brings out the 12-year old immaturity level in me) but they taste so. stinking. good. It’s like a cross between a mango and a banana…with these huge, beautiful seeds inside of it. Once we learned what they were, we have noticed them all over our property and wait all summer long to start foraging them.
The pawpaws on our property are almost ripe and it looks like we will be needing to research some fun recipes to try with them. Maybe even a pawpaw beer? Yum!
Speaking of recipes…I tried another version of a homemade Starbuck’s Pumpkin Spice Latte. This one proved to be a little better than my first but we’re just not quite there yet. You can try it for yourself if you’d like! Because it’s still pumpkin and still healthier than Starbucks. So yeah…worth it.
- 1/2 cup pure pumpkin
- 1 cup almond milk
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. pumpkin pie spice
- 1 tbsp. vanilla extract
- brewed strong coffee
- stevia, to taste (I used Agave)
In small saucepan over low heat, combine all ingredients except coffee and stevia. Whisk until heated through and mixed well. Pour over brewed coffee. Add stevia to taste. Top with whipped cream, if desired. Top with cinnamon. All pumpkin mix to cool. Refrigerate. It can be heated to make another latte or serve over cold coffee for an iced latte.
Test it out and see if you like this one any better. Or better yet…give me a new recipe to try! I’m still on my Pumpkin Spice Latte mission and I won’t quit until I’m satisfied.
