West Virginia meets Baby D.

Sep 16, 2013

We had the pleasure of a visit from Nick, Sierra and Delilah this past weekend.  And I’ve got way too freaking many pictures to share so I’m thinking about breaking it up into a couple of posts.  This was D’s first trip to the Mountain State and we haven’t seen her since she was a teeny, tiny, 2-week old.  So…pictures were a must.

I love when they come to visit because it’s such an easy going time.  There aren’t those moments where we feel like we need to constantly entertain and be on the move at all times.  We just hang out, talk, eat [way too much], laugh and relax.  Super sibling time!

My, oh my, has Miss D gotten bigger since we last saw her!  And I somehow didn’t remember to take a picture of them but I seriously couldn’t get over her chunky baby thighs.  It reminded me so much of Louis when he was a chubby little baby.  Squee!  Baby thighs are basically the cutest things ever.

Louis simply adored Delilah.  Considering the simple fact that an almost-five month old isn’t that interactive, especially by a 3-year old’s terms, Louis amazed me with his attentiveness toward his younger cousin.  When they left on Sunday morning, he was slumped over on the couch sobbing, “I miss my Deyiya.”

He wanted to hold her, to retrieve her pacifier whenever it fell out of her mouth, wanted to lay next to her on the floor while exclaiming “Look how cute we are!” and even mimicked her every move for a while there.  ADORABLE.

But I mean really…LOOK how CUTE they are!  He was so right!

Nick and Sierra are natural born parents.  They are so calm and cool about everything.  It’s wonderful watching them with their little one and seeing them develop as parents while Delilah develops from a little squishy thing to a baby with a personality.

For those of you wishing that Sierra would get a baby that was as wild as she was, you’re probably going to be disappointed.  Delilah is so sweet and happy and calm!  D only cried when she was hungry or tired and otherwise just hung out and observed the world around her.  Louis was a lot like that except the kid was never/still isn’t as quiet as she is…obviously Louis is loud like his Momma and D is a little more reserved like hers.

Bennett snuck in snuggle time whenever he could.  Meaning…he was able to hold her when I wasn’t baby-hogging, per usual.  It’s hard not to miss when Louis was that little.  She napped while in my arms on Saturday morning and it was just such a comfortable, familiar thing.  Baby snuggles make the world go round.

After WVU kicked some major butt in their Saturday matchup, we walked down to the little park that is near our house.  Delilah got her first swing experience and everyone (all adults included) ran around the playground like happy children.  It’s weird…I thought swinging from monkey bars as an incredibly out of shape, full-grown woman would be an easy thing.  I can’t figure out why my arms are a little sore today.

Luckily, we were out at the perfect hour where yummy sunshine was breaking through the trees.  I love me some fall pictures, the colors are always so much better this time of year.

There is not one ounce of doubt that Delilah is a well loved child.  She lucked out in the family department.  I mean really…could you think of a more awesome auntie than Aunt Katy?  I do feel for her during her teenaged years, though.  If you could have seen Nick’s “Matrix moves”, you’d soon realize that she’s in for years of embarrassing parent antics.

It’s okay, D.  Understand that “cool parents” aren’t always good parents.  The dorky ones are the best kind.  And I’m only saying that because your cousin Louis will be dealing with a lot of embarrassing parent antics in his life as well.

And because I’ve already put too many pictures up…I’m going to round it out with these last few.

The moral of the story is that I’m glad they came to visit, I think Nick & Sierra are wonderful parents, I wish we lived closer to each other and I want more visiting to happen soon, soon, soon!  I really love side-by-side creating a family with my sweet sister.  It’s fun to grow up with her in new and challenging/exciting ways.

PS.  Billy…we need a visit from you soon, mister!
