Meeting Santa.

Dec 4, 2013

Sometimes its good to know people.  Most of the time, those “people” are my in-laws who are nice and invite us to do fun things.  This time around, it was a Christmas party at the hospital where Mary works and it was a hoppin’ time.

Each of the departments within the hospital had awesome nurses that made stations for the kids to play/make something/eat.  It was pretty great.  Cookies, cotton candy, popcorn, drinks, reindeer food (glitter included!), crafts and bean bag toss.  All while having characters walk around and a dj playing some sweet dance tunes.  What more could you ask for?

They even had a live nativity scene for the kiddos to go up and pet the animals.  [Bennett claims he couldn’t grab a picture of this happening because I kept getting in the way of the picture.]  But Louis got to pet a donkey, pony and sheep and he seemed pretty happy about it.  Plus, in true nurse form they squirted you with hand sanitizer… and then gave you a candy cane.  So delightful happenings all around.

Plus, Louis got to meet Santa for the first time.  And he loved it.

I will say that I was a little disappointed with Santa.  We’d prepped Louis the entire ride there that he needed to talk to Santa and tell him what he really wants for Christmas.  And that he needed to say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’.  And that Santa says ‘Ho ho ho” and all that jazz.  And then we got up to front of the line….and Santa was silent.  Didn’t ‘ho ho ho’ once.  Didn’t ask him what he wanted.  Didn’t hardly make a sound.

He doesn’t seem to remember it now but when he got off the Jolly Man’s lap, Louis seemed a little confused.  We’ve never taken Louis to see Santa before.  Not for any reason in particular but we wanted him to be ready for it.  Yes, the pictures of the screaming/crying children can be hilarious later on but we really didn’t feel like doing that and having a major break down.  This year, he seemed ready.  And he totally was…serious amount of beaming smiles came from my little guy.

After we packed it all up, we headed to the nursery next to our house and picked out our Christmas tree.  I didn’t want to decorate it or the house, I just wanted to have it and decorate later.  And then this happened….

::someone:: really wanted to put the star on the tree.  He begged for it.  And then dragged out the string of lights he found in the box and demanded those be put on the tree too.

But really, who can say no to someone who has more Christmas spirit and enthusiasm than I’ve had in probably ten years?  Apparently I can after a while.  The line was drawn when he was crying because I wouldn’t keep the lights in the living room off.  I tried to explain that I have a bunch of work to do and orders to fill but Louis told me that I could work in the dark.  Um. No.

I’m predicting this to be one of the most fun Christmases with Louis so far.  He understands it better, is so excited about Santa and lights and ::ahem:: presents.  And he’s learning to appreciate and dance to the Christmas tunes we’ve been playing since our return from Thanksgiving in Canaan Valley.  So yeah, it’ll be a blast.  I’m seriously looking forward to having him help me make cookies for Santa and his reindeer too.  The magic of Christmas has finally returned to this redhead and it’s all because of a sweet little 3-year old.
