Straight Palazzos Pants by Patterns for Pirates

Dec 17, 2014

Pants aren’t something I sew a lot of for myself. In fact, I’ve only really sewn a couple of pairs of leggings that I like to work out in or (the polar opposite) laze around the house in. I like them enough but thought that maybe it was time to try something else for a change. Enter: Patterns for Pirates‘ new Palazzo pants pattern. Eek!

Judy has yet to steer me wrong with one of her patterns.  They’re always easy, a great fit and super in style.  This one fits those descriptors as well.  Palazzo pants are supposedly the maxi skirt of pants.  It’s the ultimate comfort bottom when you have to wear something with legs.

When I read that this is a “slim fit over the booty” style…I thought: SHIT.  This isn’t going to work with me at all.  I don’t have a giant booty for my body type but I am a girl with plenty of curves and “slim” doesn’t always work with me.  Praise Oprah, they fit wonderfully.  I adore the fit, really.  (Try and ignore the fact that my pattern matching skills on the crotch and bum left lots to be desired.)

I chose a fabric that is loud and proud.  And I’m wondering if these will only live as at-home lounge pants.  That’s not a bad thing at all.  When I sew these up again (which I will and the entire thing took all of thirty minutes to complete) I will choose a solid fabric that can be easily viewed as dressier.  And more appropriate for this lack-of-style gal to rock in public.  I love me some buffalo check but I don’t know if I can pull these off walking around without it looking like I’m out and about in my jams.

The pants themselves have a crazy amount of variations for you to sew them in.  Three different lengths (capri, long, shorts) and a choice of a yoga style band or an elastic-cased waist.  Personally, the yoga band is an awesome choice to have because it’s simply more comfortable.  Because i was a tester, the band is actually shorter than it is in the pattern.  I will certainly be making the band a lot taller, so I have more room to fold it down.

All in all, it is a crazy easy and fabulous pattern.  Another job well done by Patterns for Pirates!

I love the pattern, but the fabric does have a feel pj feel to me. That's not a bad thing at all.

They are super comfy so I have no issues with them becoming lounge pants. None at all. 🙂
