Angelica, Meghan and I are all challenging ourselves to blog every day during the month of May. We are hoping you can join in too!
Today’s prompt: Never Have I Ever.
Oh gosh. Remember this game back in college? You know, the one where someone would say something they “never did” and you had to take a drink if you’d done that thing. Sometimes when the really weird / gross / naughty things came up…you’d try and sneak a sip and hope that no one noticed. Right? I know I’m not alone in this one.
Well. I’m not offering up anything scandalous today. Sorry to disappoint.
Never have I ever watched / read the three biggest buzzworthy books-turned-movies of the last decade. Not a single second of my time was wasted watching or reading 50 Shades of Grey, Hunger Games or Twilight. And I haven’t a single plan to do so either.
Apparently I am a hipster without making effort to actually be a hipster. Because I basically cannot stand things that are super popular. Generally speaking, incredibly popular things are not for me (looking at you, Taylor Swift). My mom never let me own those CK tshirts back when they were super big in middle school. And I wasn’t allowed to wear clogs even though every single girl in my school had them. And it wasn’t even a thought in my parent’s heads to let me buy an Abercrombie shirt because they didn’t think we should pay a ton of money to be a walking billboard for an overpriced company. Although I hated it back when I was trying to “fit in”, I think it led me to become a fully free thinking adult.
So, thank you Momma! Sorry about all the heckling I probably did back then.
But really, America. Why do we let these things get as big as we do? I’ve heard the Hunger Games aren’t as bad…but from what I understand, the stories aren’t even that well thought out and written. :: sigh ::
So that’s my confession. What have you never done?
So I'm taking a teeeeny drink because I have read 50 Shades of Grey. Coworkers were reading it and I got sucked in. I hated myself but I couldn't stop!! That said, I have no interest in re-reading them, reading the other series you mentioned, or seeing the movies. No thank you.
Kids who never fit in…unite!
It's okay. I won't hold it against you. Promise.
WOOHOO! I knew we had an unspoken bond for some reason. I could care less about the big three from last year. Especially 50 shades. I no desire to read soft porn.
Phew! 😉
I have to say you would love Hunger Games. It is very well written!
I really don't get the hype. It's not like it was the first time something like that had been written. Hello every romance novel ever! Get a grip, ladies.
That's the only one I might cave on. But I don't see it happening anytime soon. I would prefer to read the books…and seeing as I'm a terrible book reader anymore, it's most likely not going to happen. I'm curious to see what super popular preteen books are out in Louis' future. Because I will want to pre-screen and read them before him. Which means I'll almost be forced into getting caught up in the teen drama. 🙂
