Angelica, Meghan and I are all challenging ourselves to blog every day during the month of May. We are hoping you can join in too!
Today’s prompt: The story behind your blog name.
Did you know that West Virginia’s state slogan is: Wild and Wonderful, West Virginia? Now you do!
I pretty much ripped my blog name straight from the license plates of the state with which I have a major love affair.
When I first started blogging, it was to allow my family and friends (mainly my gorgeous and amazing Aunt Vicki, who hounded me to start one!) to keep up with Bennett and me in our daily lives. Our families live all over the country and we had been bouncing around Michigan and West Virginia and it was a simple way to have a contained space for them to go, check on us and see what was happening. That was back in 2007 and the blog was called “Katy and Bennett”.
I wanted to change the name to fit my ever-growing blogging er- career?? And to also include our growing family, my business, my love of making and things we were getting ourselves into daily. The state of West Virginia has been a big influence on me and love of mine since the first time I stepped onto her soil…so it was fitting to use the Wild and Wonderful theme.
Since my blog tends to be the “Seinfeld of Blogs” (ie: a blog about nothing), I wanted a name that fit that. I think it’s a perfect homage to West Virginia AND the fact that my topics and interests are always wandering. I understand that followers like a niche blog but I just can’t do that. This is basically my online journal, without the deep thoughts. It’s a chronicle of everything the three of us are constantly getting into and I’ll sacrifice a good follower base for my impulsive style any day.
So that’s it! West Virginia. The Seinfeld of Blogs. And my random urges to write. Boom: Wild & Wanderful.
I love this so much. I totally relate to the Seinfeld of Blogs thing, too. I'm plagued by "where do I fit?" daily. I didn't know you started this as a way to keep up with family. So much cooler than Facebook!
Well all of my aunties are on Facebook now..but they certainly weren't back when this all started. And I'm glad I kept with it. I really do love blogging. Although I do get super embarrassed and weird when people talk about what I've written on here, because they've read it. I always assume no one reads my blog, haha.
Haha, I'm the same way! When my father was in the hospital, he'd randomly tell me, "Hey I liked your post today," and I'd be all, "People are reading this??"
I always wondered where the wild and wanderful came from, especially since it is SO fitting for you. How neat that your's is tied to your state.
I just love me some West Virginia. I can't help it.
