Time for School Capsule :: Planning Stage

I may have just gone plain ole' nuts.  But I've signed myself up for the sewing challenge of all sewing challenges.  At least for me.

I've volunteered to partake in the "Time for School" Capsule Sew-Along for Louis.  It's impossible to believe, but school is right around the corner for him.  (Which also means that his 5th birthday is right around the corner as well...and Momma should probably start hashing out some details for that too.)

What's a capsule wardrobe?  Capsule wardrobe is a term coined by Susie Faux, the owner of a London boutique called "Wardrobe" in the 1970s. According to Faux, a capsule wardrobe is a collection of a few essential items of clothing that don't go out of fashion, such as skirts, trousers, and coats, which can then be augmented with seasonal pieces.

If you're anything like me, you have a closet full of clothes and yet you only wear a few of those pieces.  But sometimes you impulse purchase new clothing while you're out shopping ::cough at Target cough:: and they aren't useable/mixable/reusable items.  I've really begun to realize the more I sew that...

a) ...I'd rather wear the clothes that I make because they're unique, my style and fit me the best.
b) ...I can create staple pieces that are still fun to wear.

And I can also do this for Louis.  Especially when I use the same patterns multiple times, just in different ways.  I'm super excited for this!  (ps. You can read more about the TFS Capsule sew-along and other fun stuff HERE.  Melissa has been putting together some really amazing things for this tour/sew-along.)

I plan on having at least 22 items for his fall wardrobe.  I'm most worried about pants, because he destroys the knees of everything he wears.  But I'm thinking I can just make Louis several pairs of the same ones and we can call it good.

Here are the patterns I plan to use, in various ways:

Titchy Threads :: Rowan Tee
Patterns for Pirates :: Jolly Roger Raglan
Koerbs Brothers :: Brush It Off Henley
Knot So Normal :: Radical Raglan
Filles a Maman :: Marc Shirt
Momma Quail Patterns :: Timmy Top
Willow & Co Patterns :: Kudzu Pants
Patterns for Pirates :: Cpt Comfy Jeans
Patterns for Pirates :: Lumberjack Shirt

Tonight was all about prep work.  I finally got around to actually organizing my printed patterns.  And I even printed some out that I've been wanting to make, but have been to lazy to get off of my computer and into printed form.  It's crazy how many patterns you can build up in your arsenal!  I threw a bunch out that I have no intentions of making again...my plan form now on is to try reeeeeeeally hard and only sew "staple" items.  Capsule items.

You can do this, Katy.  You can do this.
