Allow me to introduce you to the baby-making pattern of the century. I mean…to the cutest wrap dress/top pattern you’ll own. Made for Mermaids seriously nailed it with this one. Meet: Mama Isabel!
Isabel is a true wrap dress/top. It’s pieced together to be fitted at the waist, have two ties that meet and make a sweet little bow at one side of you, and accents the laaaaadies. There is a sleeveless and sleeved version (with three lengths), as well as multiple skirt variations. The tulip hem is so cute…and you can do that in a dress or maxi length. And then there’s a straight hem in maxi, dress, mini, and shirt lengths.
But don’t worry, girls. Team Mermaid has hooked you up with some hacks for Isabel too. So you can take this pattern to the max.
The first version I made during testing was the tulip dress. SO MANY HEART EYES for this style. I was worried that I’d feel exposed where the dress crosses over in front…but Megan gave us enough room to feel flirty and covered at the same time. So it’s all good, ladies. No Brittany Spears moments.
Bennett doesn’t always comment on things I make, unless I ask for his opinion. I think he’s just so used to me making things that he’s not overly impressed or excited anymore. Which is fine, I get it! No shade being thrown his direction at all!
But when I walked in with this dress, fresh off the sewing machine….he immediately was all “wow, you look great”. So if that doesn’t sell this pattern for you, I don’t know what will. Attention from your significant others is a major selling point to me.
I have no idea why I decided to take a million shots of me from behind. But here is a montage of my booty and backside, for your viewing pleasure. Hahaha. OMG. Someone stop me right now.
The second Isabel I made was a long-sleeved top. I’m surprised to say that this is my favorite of the two. I think it’s the purple that sucked me in, haha. I usually shy away from things in a wrap style, because I’m so busty and it can go from a PG to R rating super quickly with the wrong move. They provide a side length measurement in the pattern, and in tops that hit at your natural waist, I always have to add about an inch in length, to make up for my bust taking up so much space.
A quick adjustment for length, and we are at least keeping it at a PG-13 rating.
Apparently for this shirt, I was thinking to myself,
“But Katy, what should you do with your hands?”
“Put them in your hair, of course. For all of the photos. ALL the hands in the hair photos!!!”
Anywho….here’s another backside shot. Bahaha. (This is the world’s least helpful pattern review. So sorry.)
I really do like the length of the top, I think it hits at a perfect height, right across mid bum. And you can actually see in this photo how the tie wraps around the back of the top. So…not all is lost with my babbling.
