I was contacted by the BackStitch Fabrics team about sewing some strike-offs for them. Before even really seeing what they wanted me to sew up...I was in. They have some really bold, funky designs and I thought it'd be fun to play along with them!
To find out that their round this time was Halloween themed AND I'd get some Edgar Allan Poe inspired designs was just bonus. Also it's giving me a chance to make terrible Poe puns. So a bonus-bonus.
Given the fabrics I was sent, I wanted to do something a little more funky than I'd normally do. I was shooting for a more Victorian era style skirt when I first set out, but of course it morphed into something way different. Haha. As my sewing always does.
The "Blood Roses" print is just SO GOOD. I'm dead over them. They have it as a coordinate for the Kookie Family line but it totally works for Poe as well. I used Made for Mermaids' Mama Chloe skirt and added four layers of gathered flounces. Preeeeeety sure I'm going to be doing this again with another skirt for the summer. I even will suffer through all that gathering of fabric, if that helps prove how fun I found this skirt to be.
To be completely honest with you, I tend to shy away from working with panels. Like, at all. Because sometimes the print is in an awkward spot and it's hard to to turn into anything wearable. However, the BackStitch ladies made it happen with these adult panels. Annabelle is beautifully digitally printed and I had a ton of room to work with the print. I almost made it into a leg for some Peg Legs. (Pssst...panels are totally legit for leggings! More people should use them that way!)
My top is a Patterns for Pirates Sweet Tee. Since I had a panel and a fat half to work with, it was perfect. The lack of sleeves makes it easy to use one print for the front and one for the back and it feeling right.
And for unknown reasons I'm super into tying my shirt into knots right now. So this is what you're getting from me. Small amounts of skin showing and another knotted tee. Sorry. One day, I'll get over it, but today is not that day.
Isn't the Poe print just amazing? It's stylized just right...but I still feel comfortable wearing it. I might appreciate the darker stylings of his work, but I am personally not a dark person. I just can't pull of anything other than a big cheesy grin. But I wore this shirt out and I loved it.
I was also super surprised that Louis knew who Edgar Allan Poe is. Apparently they covered him in an episode of Mr. Peabody and Sherman. That kid. He absorbs so much.
All of these prints are available as a pre-order starting today, until 11:59pm EDT on May 19. So you have a little time, but not too much, if you're wanting to get in on this Halloween 2 Round! Move, move, move!
Oh but wait. Before you go. Here are some of my favorite Poe memes that I found. Just because it needed to be shared.
