Ahhh! My favorite self-hosted blog tour is back for it’s fourth year and I couldn’t be more excited than I am! I love me some red, white and blue. And even more so, I love that I can convince twenty-four other bloggers (who are way cooler than me, let’s face it) to play along!
Should we get to sharing what I made for my trio? Because I’m loving our looks this year!
Louis got the most fun of all of our outfits. And I actually made him both shorts and a tshirt…so kiddo made out. I realized that he’s low on “comfy shorts”, so really that’s why. But I got to tie it into this blog tour, so it was a double win!
What’s funny is that I built his look around the fabric on these shorts. I’ve had this little bit of dinosaur print left over from a couple of years ago and I was super excited to realize that I had enough for some shorts length Baby Bear Joggers.
But how do you make dinosaurs into an Americana look? By creating an American Dino, of course! I designed up this cute flag waving, Uncle Sam hat wearing TRex…and then slapped it on a shirt for him!
For the shirt itself, I used my newest favorite tee pattern for Louis: the Basic Tee - Youth from Patterns for Pirates. It’s got that slimmer fit that Louis just loves (and I do too!) and it’s such an quick and easy sew. I adore it on him.
Bennett also received a P4P Basic Tee. I added an extra little detail with the pocket on his, to spruce up the color combo a bit. But otherwise, I left the pattern alone. I probably talk about it all the time, but Bennett gets the majority of his height in his torso. So even though he’s not super tall, he needs tall tees otherwise we run the risk of belly shirts. The Basic Tee pattern comes with a tall length built into the pattern itself, which makes for an even quicker sew with zero adjustments needed!
For the record, belly shirts are fine. It’s just not his preference or comfort. So we try and steer clear.
Bennett isn’t one for “flashy” shirts, and this print combo might be a little more than his usual closet items. However, he’s always willing to try out new things when I make them for him. I’m not thinking I’ll see him wearing this tee outside of the holiday season, but I’m sure it’ll get some use in the future years to come.
For my outfit, I couldn’t decide if I wanted a dress or a top. So I made a dress that can easily be tied into a knot and worn as a top! It’s like a two for one deal without even trying! I used the Made for Mermaids Women's Nina pattern, which is a super swingy raglan style dress/top. I chose the dress length, with that cute high/low look to it. And paired it with this super soft, stretchy and gorgeous rayon/spandex blend striped knit from Sly Fox Fabrics.
The Sly Fox Fabrics team has graciously sponsored the Sew Americana Tour for another year and I couldn’t be more thankful to Katy and her team! They are seriously the best and have incredible customer service and shipping speeds, as well as a fabulous selection of high quality fabrics. They are the bees knees!
I really wanted to have some red sleeves and the only fabric I had laying around that would fit into my style scheme bareeeeeely had enough length for me. In fact, the short sleeved length is actually longer than what I made here, but I used what I had and made it work!
Untied, the Nina as a dress is just as cute!! I couldn’t decide which way I liked it better, so I took pictures as both. What do you think? Top or dress? Which is your favorite?
Happy (almost) Independence Day, friends! I keep wishing, hoping and voting for a better place to live for all of us. The tides will change eventually. I’m sure of it.

Awwww I love your outfits!!!! Genius double duty with that Nina!
Love the vinyl dino! So cute! I made my husband a shirt too and like yours, he’ll only wear on the holiday because it’s too much. Hmmmm….I think I like yours as a shirt the best. But I’m not a dress person.
Apparently non-solid colored shirts are “flashy”. Haha. He and I have way different color and style palates.
All three are absolutely adorable! You always do such a great job coordinating the three of you!
The Dino fabric and cut file are amazing! This isn’t the first time I’ve been jealous of your sons clothes! 🤣
Your dress/knitted skirt is genius, I am definitely going to have to do this!
Thanks so much for hosting the tour, I love seeing what everyone makes! ❤️💙
Love that Dino cut file! I prefer the Nina as a top but that is because I’m not a dress person.
You guys are just so cute together! I love your dress and when you wear it as a top!
Ooh that’s so fun that it doubles as a dress! I love the top version best though – that knot is cute!!
I just love the two for 1 shirt/dress!! I think my son needs the dino SVG as well. I have a cute idea for it 🙂
The dino shirt!! And Nina a fantastic choice as always.
