Vintage-Inspired Tank Top | “I Made It” Monday

Katy McKinleyComment

I’m really excited about sharing this blog post with you, mostly because I get to feature a fellow crafter’s awesome creation!  Thank you so much for sharing this with us, Sarah!

Sarah Marek is a former high school classmate of mine who really knows how to create her own trends in clothing, jewelry and everything else.  She is insanely creative and not afraid to think outside of the box when it comes to fashion.

So what has she made?  A really pretty tank top!

Sarah is apparently a girl after my own heart because what she’s done here would REALLY fall under the ‘upcycled’ category.  She took an old crocheted (?) kitchen doily and fashioned it into a wearable, vintage inspired tank-top.  Sarah said she is “really into mixing old with new, whether with vintage materials or just vintage inspiration.”

When asked if she wanted to share anything about her design, this is what Sarah had to say:

“I did make the entire piece from scratch. I fell in love with the white fabric at a local consignment/antique/upcycle store. When I brought it home I searched through my big tubs of fabric for the right material. I used to buy fabric like a crazy person, but now I have so much I try to limit what I buy for special projects and work really hard to made pieces from what I have. I very very rarely use patterns when I make clothes.

Most of the the time I spend a day or two popping around ideas in my head about how best a particular piece would fit together. The first cut in new fabric is always a bit nerve racking when you make clothes that way. :) If I ever question size or measurement I use existing body measurements I have or use an article of clothing as a guide. Sewing this way definitely has it's ups and downs and you spend a lot of time working out little kinks, or reworking items. But in the end you come out with an awesome, one-of-a-kind article of clothing.”

Want to know something else about Sarah?  She has her own Etsy store!!  If you like what you see here, there is so much more online!  Follow this link to see what she has for sale: www.AgentBananas.etsy.com  (I have my eye on a couple of pieces of jewelry that she has listed!)

Sarah made mention that she plans on having her one-of-a-kind clothing on Etsy!  Keep an eye out for more pieces from this crafty woman! :)
