A city is a space. And that space is filled with people. Living, breathing people who have passions and life and experiences and knowledge and so many things to share with their neighbors.
No one else is responsible for your happiness. No one else can decide upon the mood you're going to wake up with each morning. You do. If you don't like your current situation, change it. Or change how you look at it. Stop focusing on what you don't have and focus on all of the amazing things you personally can account for.
No one owes you anything. You owe it to yourself. And one day you'll be thanking yourself for it.
One of the biggest changes Bennett and I made was to start surrounding ourselves with people who make us want to be better people. Each of our friends brings an incredibly different set of skills and passion to the table and it's awesome. Seriously, it is.
Allison is one of those people. She is energetic, smart, savvy, sassy and an all around wonderful person. Wheeling is so lucky to have her in their City Offices. And I'm lucky to call her my friend.
So Wheeling, can we take it down a couple of notches? Reach out to some new groups and see if you can find your little niche of positivity. There isn't a group already for what you like to do? Make one. Social networking can be utilized for so much more than sharing recipes and complaining about "kids these days".
Because five years ago, this job that I hold now didn't exist. I made it. And with it came a ton of new friends and networking possibilities. It sometimes takes a little work and you'll figure out what Wheeling can offer you too. Pinkie swear.
