National Zoo :: DC Easter 2015

We haven't been able to hit up the National Zoo during any of our trips to DC yet and the weather was PERFECTION on Sunday, so we decided to make it our Easter Day trip.  Holy cow that zoo is giant.  Good thing we had a really great guide to get us around.

We spent a ton of time there and still didn't see all of the animals and attractions.  Honestly, we could have tried to...but it was starting to get incredibly crowded and I am not exactly a fan of crowds and people.  Apparently DC has been having a ton of crappy weather up until Sunday so everyone had the same idea we did.

Louis was all smiles the entire time we were there.  We were lucky that so many of the animals were out in the sunshine as well, so we could see them.  Even zoo animals were all "oh thank god the weather is nice today I've been bummed all winter long".

It's unknown why exactly, but Louis always begs us to go to the sea lion exhibit at any of the zoos we visit.  Like, it's all he will say that he wants to see.  I think it's because they're generally really active and playful and you can watch them from a more Louis-eye level height.  Either way, he was super in love with the sea lions again and we spent a lot of time in front of these windows.

The sun was out so much (and I was underprepared for the good weather) that we all got a little sunburn on our faces.  First burn of the season/year.  We will take it.

When the zoo got crazy crowded and we were super hungry, we decided to leave and just walk and stop at whatever struck our fancy.  The added beauty of it all was that Uber is awesome and we could just use that handy little app whenever we decided we wanted to be picked up and brought back to the apartment.  There are some perks to being in a city.

After lunch we found this cute little park during our exploration and let Louis play for a bit.  He was a happy boy, to say the least.

I couldn't help but take a picture of the beautiful blossoms on this tree.  When we were in DC last year for Easter, it was two weeks later into the month...so their cherry blossoms were in full bloom.  This year, things were just starting to bud and bloom but they're still way ahead of Wheeling in terms of spring.  Jealous.

That's about it for our first full day of Washington DC sunshine.  I'll try and tackle the photos from Monday and the Easter Egg Roll on the White House lawn later.  If I can get through all of my HE work today successfully.  I joked this morning...but it's really not a joke.  I am going to drink all the coffee today.  I need it.  I'm whipped.
