Have you ever experienced Fabric FOMO (fear of missing out) before? I 100% have, multiple times.
But for some reason, there was one fabric that has been stuck in my brain for TWO YEARS. I can’t stop being jealous of it whenever Judy shares it. And since Valentine’s Day is coming up, of course I’m in the mood to create themed outfits and crocheted items for that holiday in particular.
Basically what I’m saying is that Judy shared a sweater she made and I’ve been mad at her for a long time now because she didn’t make me an exact copy. I mean why are we even friends if she doesn’t know that I’d want this exact sweater of hers?
Here’s a photo of her offending sweater. Ha.
Now do you understand my need for this? It’s SO FREAKING CUTE!!!
Anyway, I decided that maybe it was time for me to give up my dream of ever getting my hands on that fabric. So I made my own version, the best way I knew how: I sublimated my own copycat fabric! (Well, kinda copycat…obviously my fabric is grey and hers is black. But give me some credit here.)

I explain the whole process in this Reel that I already shared. In case you want to know the details. I’ve got some resources on my blog if you want more information about Sublimation! You can find it HERE.
If you don’t want to watch the short video above, let me break it down for you a little bit.
- I printed a ton of 4″ hearts with my sublimation-converted printer onto sublimation paper.
- My fabric was 70% polyester, perfect for my project.
- After the pattern pieces for the Modern Sweater were cut from the fabric, I taped + glued the hearts in place.
- I sublimated the images onto my fabric using my HTVRONT auto heat press.
- After the hearts were applied, I sewed up my sweater.
Just like that, y’all!

How do you think I did? I feel like it turned out SO CUTE. I’m really happy with the results.
I alllllllmost added smaller hearts to the banded bottom but I’m glad I left that off. I think giant hearts on the sleeves and bodice were enough.

So listen. I know that not everyone is like me and would make their own fabric. I also know that not everyone has the materials for it.
And since I didn’t want you to experience the Fabric FOMO like I did, I went ahead and added these prints to my Design Studio with Raspberry Creek Fabrics. So you can have this giant heart print made just for you and sent your way super quickly. With way more than enough time for Valentine’s Day sewing.
Classic Valentine Hearts - Red + Black | Classic Valentine Hearts - Red + Grey | Classic Valentine Hearts - Red + Pink
I’d highly recommend the Poly Rayon Spandex French Terry for these prints, if you do decide to get it printed for a copy of a copycat sweater! That base is great for not only the Modern Sweater pattern, but also for a full coverage design like I’ve got here for you to use.

One of my big goals for 2024 is to fill up my Design Studio with fabrics that I’ve created for myself in the past, and also of course new ones! I’m excited to see what I can do with this creative outlet!
