Guess who’s finally back with another freebie, y’all? Sorry I took so long…I was busy launching a new branch of the Wild+Wanderful world. And changing careers. And just trying to survive adulthood in general.
ANYWHO. I’m here to share a super fun granny square project with you! Join me and my dorky ways this Spooky Season by making these Granny Square Eyeballs! AHH! I’m in love!

For this crochet tutorial, I went all out this time. I’m talking EVERYTHING being covered in this freebie. I’ve got a video tutorial, a written tutorial AND my first ever crochet graph. (I’m embarrassed to admit how long it took me to get the graph to happen…so just pretend that it was only a few minutes to whip up.)
I don’t teach you how to crochet in this download, so you’ll need to know the basics for sure. The stitches used to create these squares are as follows:
- Double Crochet
- Slip Stitch
- Chain Stitch
- Single Crochet
- Half Double Crochet
- Triple Crochet
- Magic Ring
What can you do with these squares? ANYTHING YOU WANT! I turned them into my new favorite Halloween sweater…because I’m extra like that. You can see more photos on the blog HERE.
For my sweater, I used a total of 7 colors, all with the JoAnn line of yarns called 'Big Twist Value'. It’s an acrylic yarn that is pretty soft and has a wide variety of colors. I’ve converted to this brand for most of my crochet projects because I have a JoAnn local to me, and they always have these yarns in stock. Consistency is key, am I right?

The colors I used are:
Other than that, all that was needed were the basic crochet items: H size crochet hook, big eye/yarn needle, scissors
In case you needed a little bit of visual help, I made sure to record all of the steps in creating these cute eyeballs. I walk through both of the designs, making sure to include the bloodshot version as well and how I added the details. It’s all SUPER easy and fun to make, I promise you can whip these up in no time at all!
I truly am so excited to see what you’re able to do with these squares! Like all of my tutorials, it’s a great jumping off point and you’re only limited by your own creativity. I hope you make something spectacularly spooky!
Pretty please with sugar on top share with me if you end up making something for yourself! I’d die to see your work! Don’t forget to tag me #wildandwanderfulblog (Iām @wildandwanderfulblog on Instagram). The idea of seeing something you’ve created from a tutorial I shared gives me ALL THE FEELS. Don’t leave me hanging!
