Hands down, my favorite season is spooky season, and what better way to celebrate than with a sweater full of eyeballs? I mean. I’m just so excited about my new sweater.
I don’t know what’s gotten into me, but I’ve really been on a kick lately with my crocheting, where I’m creating a lot more sweaters and blankets than I ever used to. I’m typically someone who likes quicker projects, so I can move onto my next random thing I’ve been inspired by. But for some reason…since early this year, I’ve been all in on creating larger, more time consuming pieces. This sweater is definitely one of them!

I spent a bunch of time asking for help on Instagram while I was working up the design of my spooky sweater. I couldn’t decide if I wanted long or short sleeves, and had other parts of the creative process I wanted to share along the way. Thankfully, y’all talked me into being good with turning this into a short sleeved number. Up until this past week, it’s been super hot here still, and I wanted to be able to wear this, even during the warmer temperatures. I figured that, when it gets cold, I could just throw a long sleeved something underneath (I’m thinking a black + white striped tee!) and it would still be cute as ever.
I really like it with the shorter sleeves, don’t you?

I whipped up 24 squares in total, featuring four different iris colors: purple, blue, green, and gold. For an extra eerie touch, 8 of these eyeballs are bloodshot, giving the whole sweater a playful (and slightly spooky) vibe. I have to say, making those bloodshot eyeballs was my favorite part. Who knew that adding just a few red lines could make such a difference in the overall look? It’s all in the details!
Using an invisible join, I just stitched them together, having the second row be offset from the top and bottom rows. I thought it would make it more “interesting” than just having them all lined up perfectly. For the neckline and sleeves, I finished them with ribbing made from FPDC + BPDC, so it was super textured and wouldn’t roll either direction while wearing it. I think that’s my preferred method of making ribbing and I plan to use it from now on.

While I did not create a pattern for this sweater of mine, I DID decide to hook you up with a pattern for the squares! You can find all of the details HERE, or add your email below and have the pattern sent directly to your inbox!
OH. Before we go. Here’s the sweater in action.

What do you think? Would you wear a sweater like this, or are the eyeballs not your spooky style?
