I know I’ve been a broken record while talking about catching up on prior months’ Fabric for Pirates shipments, but I promise that I’m almost caught up! While I’m suuuuper duper late to the party with the November 2024 fabric shipment, I’m also here to share a new ::FREE:: pattern released by Patterns for Pirates AND to give you a quick design download in case you wanted it for yourself.
So maybe it was worth the wait after all, right? Let’s get to it!

So way back in November 2024, we sent this stunner of a fabric and I really dragged my feet on figuring out what to sew for myself. I don’t know why. It’s seriously the softest, drapiest fabric and would whip up into about a million different cute items. But it just sat on my table and taunted me for several months until the new Judy Tee pattern came along.
First let’s talk about the fabric itself, and then I’ll share about the pattern!

Fabric: Baby French Terry
Width: 58/60″ GSM: 160.00
Material: 69% Rayon, 27% Polyester, 4% Spandex
Baby French Terry has a very soft hand and the front is a solid while the backside has little loops…like what you would see with a more traditional French Terry. It’s very easy to sew with. And as you can see by my pairing with an oversized tee pattern, it really has a fantastic drape. If I were a longewear kinda gal, I’d be making these into some Cozy Pants in like ten seconds flat. But since I know myself and my wardrobe habits, making a top was a much safer bet for me.

As a special Valentine’s Day surprise for her sewing community, Judy released a brand new, COMPLETELY FREE, sewing pattern for her customers! Named after herself (because it’s her favorite silhouette to wear in a top) the Judy Tee pattern is the perfect quick and casual tee.
It features a dropped shoulder and loose, boxy shape with crew / scoop necklines, and a crop / top / shirt length….with long and short sleeve versions as well. It’s a super quick sew and one of those easy to wear silhouettes that everyone seems to be all about right now.

Head straight to Patterns for Pirates and pick up the new Judy Tee FOR FREE, y’all! I think you’ll love it, and it’s a great beginner pattern if you’re looking for a way to start learning to sew apparel.
In addition to the excitement of a new, free sewing pattern, I’m dropping this “Protect Trans Kids” file, in case you want to use it to embroider your own top. I’ve recently discovered that I kinda/sorta know how to chain stitch embroider. And that it looks really cute with yarn…which I own tons of. So I took my absolute uncontrollable angst and anxiety about everything that’s going on in the world around us right now, and channeled some of it into my making.

Trans women are women. Trans men are men. Trans kids need support and protection. Their identities are valid and any attempts to erase their existence is harmful, wrong, and disgusting.
I stand beside the LGBTQIA+ community and find it important to support and respect the Queer Community. As an Ally, learning is an ongoing experience. For those of you interested in educating yourselves on how you can support the Trans and Nonbinary communities, there’s a great guide from The Trevor Project (a nonprofit organization that focuses on suicide prevention efforts in the LGBTQIA+ community): Guide to Being an Ally to Transgender and Nonbinary Young People.
I will not tolerate discriminatory or hateful speech in any form. You don’t have to understand someone to respect them. They know who they are more than we ever will.
Spread love, spread joy, and keep making beautiful things.
The file is formatted as an 8.5″ x 11″ PDF and can be downloaded and used however you like!

I’m also accepting any and all tips that someone wants to dish while I delve into my yarn embroidery endeavors. Because you know that I’m not stopping here, y’all. I’ve already got plans for something that I ::hope:: turns out as cute as I’m picturing in my head.
