Time for School Capsule | Blog Tour

Sep 29, 2015

I need to stop making friends in the sewing/blogging world.  Because when they post about new tours/contest/challenges….I get SO FREAKING EXCITED and I sign up for them.  Granted, I love a good challenge.  But man, I’ve really been putting my sewing to the test lately.

Case in point: the Time for School Capsule Tour.  Melissa (that badass, vixen, rockstar momma that she is) put together this amazing idea: creating a back to school wardrobe for your child.  Made out of all handmade items. That can be worn over and over and be mix-matched all over the place.  I couldn’t resist her siren call.  I joined.  And I’m glad that I did!!

In total, I made 25 items for Louis.  Twenty FREAKIN’ five.  That’s a lot!  And the majority of it has been worn already, a bunch of times.  School started back in mid-August and we’ve certainly used all of the short sleeved shirts and all of the pants already.  In fact, for me to photograph all of these, I had to dig through the clean and dirty laundry to gather everything.

Let’s start with the tops.  Specifically, the fancier tops (ie: the ones that include buttons.)  I actually planned to make more than what I did, but Louis wears these types of tops a lot less and I decided to switch my focus from them.  Now that the cooler weather is setting in, I will probably pull out all of those flannel fabrics and get around to making them.  Louis is always wanting “stretchy shirts” so wovens are sometimes harder to convince him to wear.  Five year olds, am I right?

For buttondowns / “fancy” shirts, I made:
:: (1) Filles a Maman – Marc
:: (2) Momma Quail Patterns – Timmy Top (one long sleeved, one short)

I made a total of seven long sleeved knit tops.
:: (3) Patterns for Pirates – Jolly Roger Raglans

:: (1) Patterns for Pirates – Deep Sea VNeck

:: (2) Titchy Threads – Rowan Tee

:: (1) Radical Raglan – Knot So Normal

Next up is the short sleeved tees!!  I made six of these.

For the pants, I made seven total.  I plan on making more because Louis can’t stop wiping his hands on his pants after EVERY. SINGLE. MEAL.  And he wears the knees out of everything.  But I’m happy that I have this many done so far.

:: (5) Patterns for PIrates – Cpt. Comfort Jeans

:: (1) Willow & Co – Kudzu Pants

:: (1) Momma Quail Patterns – Calvin Cargos

And finally…I made two layering pieces.  One was a cardigan that I tested and i love, but I’m not totally sure if I can get Louis to wear too often.  He’s not the world’s biggest lover of layers.  I think it’s because he runs so darn hot all the time.  Or maybe it’s because he likes to dance and doesn’t want to feel so constricted while he’s movin’ and groovin’.  I don’t know.  He’s Louis.  He does his own thing.

:: (1) Patterns for PIrates – Cpt Mack Cardigan

I think my ultimate favorite thing out of all of these pieces is his jacket.  I want this in my size.  For reals.

:: (1) Patterns for PIrates – Lumberjack Shirt

This was such a fun experience.  And it’s so amazing to see so many me-made things hanging in Louis’ closet.  I can’t believe that I somehow made 25 separates in such a short amount of time but I’m glad that I did it.  And….Momma is about to make some more things because kiddo keeps growing.
