Eep! I made a thing. I might have stayed up WAY past my bedtime to make it. And I might have been cursing (loudly) when I had to seam rip through fleece….which is damn near impossible to do. But I love it.
I love it so much I couldn’t wait to take picture and share.
So here she is: my new fall/winter jacket! Woot!
You’re wondering what’s so exciting about a jacket, right?
Well, I’m excited because I made this cutie by just using the Patterns for Pirates Relaxed Raglan + Raglan Add-On Pack patterns. It’s not intended for jacket use, but I tackled my on-going fear of zippers and installed it all by myself. AND I made the jacket so it’s fully lined, which means it’s extra cozy and warm! Those two little changes and I have my favorite me-made outerwear ever.
I’ve been wanting a buffalo plaid jacket for forever now. While I was at JoAnn Fabrics the other day, the siren call of this plaid fleece was too hard to resist. (Plus it being 50% off wasn’t the worst thing ever.) I’m usually a hater of fleece. I don’t understand the craze of it. I mean, how many freaking fleece blankets can you give as Christmas presents. No offense. But seriously, haha.
Fleece as a jacket though? Yes, yes, yes. Louis even gave me a little longer hug than normal this morning because it was so soft. I’m not mad.
Literally, the only changes I made to the pattern was to cut the front piece off of the fold, so I had two pieces. And to install this zipper. And of course…I cut every piece twice so I could have a full lining. Otherwise, it was left the same. I cut my jacket at the hemmed shirt line and it was perfect for installing this 22″ long zipper.
Because the Relaxed Raglan has such a straight cut to it, it handles the extra thickness of the double layers of fleece well. I adore how the fit turned out.
And from the add-on packet, I used the inseam pockets for my inseam pockets. Because a jacket without pockets is like a sky without stars. Or something like that. And I also used the traditional hood from the add-on pack, to top it all off for cold-weather wearing.
The only thing I’m wondering is how long she’s going to survive before being COATED in dog hair. I’m considering shaving my dogs so they can’t mess with my pretty buffalo plaid goodness.

Thank you Katy! I’ve been dying for a buffalo plaid fleece hoodie! What did you use to line the hood and for the cuffs? Did you just use DBP? Or Black Fleece? Thanks!
I just used a basic ponte for the cuffs, and I believe a rayon/spandex blend for the hood. 🙂
