Fall Mix Tapes by Vintage Lace Prints

May 20, 2018

I love when a fabric shows up at my house that can be used for clothing for Louis.  Because it’s the perfect excuse to sew something for him….and then take photos.  Sewing has seriously helped me create a snapshot of my growing little man, using my “big camera”.  Sure, cell phone snappies are good too, but there’s just something extra special when you have a higher quality shot.

Suffice to say, getting this beautiful fabric in the mail the other day made my heart soar.  Yay for more Louis photos, right?  Haha.

I adore some of the fabrics that are coming out with VL Round 24 are so stinking cute.  These cassette tapes and the retro-inspired stripes arrived and I was immediately set on making something for Louis, to help fill the void in his closet.  He has apparently outgrown allllllll of his “comfy clothes” and we desperately needed some shorts to add to his dresser.  Lucky me, Louis’ class had earned a pajama day and I got to kill two birds with one stone: an outfit for that special day AND something he actually needed.

I grabbed my trusty Jolly Roger Raglan pattern for the shirt.  It’s an easy way to mix prints and still have a pretty basic tee.  I added that cute little pocket to be able to squeak more color and more out of this fabric.  I asked Louis if he knew what these were and he said “discs”, so I’m officially old and he will probably never see a cassette tape in real life.  I’m wondering if I have some in storage in the garage, so I can show him?  But what to play it on even if I do??

Oy.  Old.  This makes me feel so old.

For the pants, I actually ran the stripes vertically, instead of how they are printed.  I thought it would be cute to give him some retro looking pants and for some reason the vertical stripes strike me as more fitting to that look than if I’d run them horizontally.

These are the Lexi & Lou Loungers from Made for Mermaids…it’s the second pair I’ve made, but the first time I’m actually getting around to sharing any.  Officially I’m putting out the call to my Mermaid girls that we need to come up with a Katy pattern.  Because even if they didn’t name it after Louis, his name is still in the pattern.  And I’m jealous.

Like all Vintage Lace fabrics, they are digitally printed onto different fabric bases.  I requested the French Terry blend this time around, because I wanted to see what I thought of it.  It’s love!  The stretch is perfect and it’s a super soft fabric.  AND, the colors are gorgeous even after washing.  French terry is for sure on my list when I place an order with these ladies.
