Squad Goals by RP Custom Fabrics

Jul 23, 2018

Outside it is roughly 3000% humidity, and I’m hardcore craving fall and all of the festivities that come with it.  Summer is just not my jam, friends.  But to top it off, RP Custom Fabrics sends me this adorable Halloween fabric and now all I can think about is how much I need it to be October already.

Halloween, you guys!  It’s the best!  (But I’m pretty sure I’ve already told you this a thousand times on here.)

Although my squad is pretty well established with this little man (and his father too I guess…..haha), these panels are pretty legit.  HOW CUTE ARE THE LITTLE MONSTERS?!?  I’m usually not a lover of panels.  I don’t like the placement of the images sometimes, and if I want to decorate my shirt, I want to do it with my own HTV magic.

However, I love these.  They’re perfect and I’m so glad I got to play with them.  Plus it gave me an excuse to get some “Mommy and Me” photos with the kiddo.  Win, win.

Want to talk about the shirts individually?  Because I do!

I made my little monster a Dylan Tee from Made for Mermaids.  I basically think this is the primo pattern when you want to mix fabrics on a little dude’s shirt, but don’t want to make a raglan.

I mean.  Look how cool the side panels are with this fabric mixture!  (And look how cool my “vampire child” is too, haha.  He’s so funny with his poses sometimes.   You do you, kid.)

The Dylan tee actually fits a little looser than Louis prefers.  Poor kid, he’s used to Momma-made shirts that are more on the slim fit side and any time I put something different on him, he practically revolts and says it’s too big.  An easy fix is simply for me to grade between sizes.  Though he’s continuously growing and fits easily into the measurements for the Size 8, I actually have used a Size 6 for him with this, and used 8 for the length.  Perfectly preferred fit for Lou this way.

For my own top, I used the Patterns for Pirates Sweet Tee.  Again, with using different fabrics, I have my preferred patterns.

If I’m ever going to make a shirt with a different front fabric than what I use on the back, I head straight to the Sweet Tee.  The dolman sleeve makes it an easy pattern to mix fabrics with.  And the dolman sleeve also makes it an insanely quick shirt to sew up!

When using a thicker cotton/lycra like this fabric is (and a lot of custom fabrics are), tops do tend to fit a bit more snuggly than if you use a different fabric type.  So if you’re wondering why my Sweet Tee doesn’t look as flowy as others that are sewn up, that’s why.  When I make this in a rayon/spandex blend, it has a bit more drape and a lot less tighter of a weave to the fabric.  It just depends on what you’re going for, am I right?
