Tulip Tee by Patterns for Pirates (and Threads of the Month July + August!)

Sep 14, 2018

Boy have we been having some fun over at Patterns for Pirates this week!  As part of our 100K Fan Sale-A-Bration, we’ve also been giving out FREEBIES all week long!  Today is the fifth day of goodies and I should probably share what I’ve made, huh?

Judy decided it was time to add a free tshirt sewing pattern to her lineup, and we settled on this Tulip Tee.  It’s so cute and quick to sew, and you have a ton of options for mix/matching the tulip part of the pattern.  There’s even a little girl’s matching version as well!  Woot!

Let’s start the sharing, shall we?  First up is the “tulip front” version.  Which also happens to be made using the July Threads of the Month fabric!  I don’t know what took me to long to decide what to make out of this fabric, but it did.  I think I loved it too much that the decision on what to cut it into was killing me.  It’s a rayon/spandex blend is just perfect for this pattern.  The Tulip Tee is designed to be a loose and flowy dolman, and this drapey fabric was an excellent pairing with it.

Plus…check out that pattern matching on the tulip pieces!  I totally did not do that on purpose but I love that it worked out on it’s own!

The next version I made was the tulip back, but this time with 3/4 sleeves.  I think it’s so funny that I made ANOTHER Tulip Tee in a Threads of the Month fabric — I swear it wasn’t on purpose!  This is the August TOTM — it’s an adorable polka dotted french terry.  And I love it.

The only thing I will caution you with this fabric and pattern pairing is that French Terry is not really a fabric with a good drape to it.  You can see in my pictures how it tents out a little bit from my body than the other two shirts I’m sharing.  I like this look because it feels more like a fall, comfy, cozy sweatshirt to me in this fabric.  But you might not love it with all things.  So just think about drape before you pick a fabric for this pattern!  (And really all patterns.)

And the final tee that I made with the new Tulip Tee pattern is this plain front/back version, in a hemmed tee length.  (The design that’s printed on this one is one of the freebies that we put up over at P4P on Tuesday.  Go grab the cut files for yourself!)  And don’t hate on me too much…the gold vinyl that I printed with looks really cute in person, but does not photograph well.  Lesson learned!

The fit of this dolman is such an easy one.  It’s relaxed, dips a little bit in the back for some bum coverage, and the sleeves are a little more on the looser side.  I’m not a huge fan of relaxed tees for the most part, because I’m always convinced they add weight to me, but I actually like the cut of the Tulip Tee.  Judy wins again!

I don’t know if you noticed or not, but it’s raining in every single photo I took of these tops.  Last weekend, it basically started raining right before I needed these images to be finished….and didn’t stop until 48-hours later.  Followed by our electricity being out for an entire day.  Sigh.  Sometimes you have to be resourceful and dedicated…..and you tape an umbrella to your tripod so you can get all the damned photos you’d set out to do that day.  Haha.  WHATEVER IT TAKES.

Be sure to go grab a copy of this pattern, along with all of the other fabulous freebies that we’ve been giving to everyone this week!  AND, don’t forget to enter yourself into the Grand Prize for the 100K Sale-A-Bration, or to take advantage of the incredible sale that’s happening from now until September 20.  Go go go!

Also, I can’t help but leave you with this photo before we go.  Hahahahaha.  I couldn’t help myself.  It needed to be done.  (Bennett might want to break up with me after he sees this.)
