Losing. My sanity while trying to make Bennett’s birthday special for him.  Having a January birthday is hard.  We still have a Christmas hangover, and now that both boys are in school it almost always falls on a school day.  In my attempts to give him a special day….I got stressed out while making his dinner (I’m not exactly the cook in the house, and everything was sticking to the pan while I was cooking) and yelled at him for trying to help me.  How’s that for a happy birthday?  SIGH.  If to err is human, I am VERY human.  I think we recovered from my moment of crazy and he welcomed his 33rd year with lots of love from Louis and I.  Happy birthday, babe.

Pairing. My love for ballroom dancing (from my experience with our local DWTS) and Louis’ love of dance for this year’s talent show at his school.  He and one of his classmates are learning some salsa moves from my ah-dorable friend Claire, who choreographed an entire dance for the two.  They’ve only been able to get together for one practice so far but I am beyond excited to see them put it all together, and then get up on stage to show off their moves.  It’s going to be the most adorable thing in the entire world.  Someone is going to need to be with me, just to maintain my crazy stage mom persona that will most likely come out in me that night.

Surprising. Everyone with my new ink.  Ha!  I’ve been wanting a sewing sleeve tattoo for YEARS at this point, but never pulled the trigger.  A year or more ago, I found Maelin on Instagram and decided she’d be the perfect artist for the job….and I was so right.  Advice for anyone who has a tattoo idea but not the actual image drawn up yet: find an artist that you love and put your trust in them.  They love being able to use their artistry to create custom designs!  I gave her a few “style” images, a couple of things that I really wanted in the piece, and she drew it all up for me, with perfect execution.  I wanted to represent my own sewing materials.  As pretty as vintage machines and some scissors can be, it doesn’t represent how I sew.  I couldn’t be happier with what Maelin gave me and I’m so excited to go back for color next month.

The decision is yours, and whether or not you decide to buy something is completely up to you.  Purchasing from my links does not alter the pricing in any way for you, it simply helps feed my sewing, creating and blogging habits.  Thank you for your support!

Okay, where to start? First, I am dying over that tattoo and cannot wait to see it in full color! You are giving me so many ideas! Second, Happy Birthday Bennett. My birthday is actually tomorrow, so I know the pain of a January birthday. All I have ever wanted for a birthday is to have a cookout, but that is not going to happen in January.

I love that the kids are learning to dance so early in life. Such a great skill!

Lou’s school actually has dance / yoga / theater / etc. It’s the best. Expose them to everything, and let the kids pick what they love.

OMG! I love your new tattoo! Can’t wait to see the color too!

When I was in elementary school, our gym teacher gave us dance lessons. Square dancing lessons! I think I (and all my classmates) would have much preferred learning ballroom dances. How fun!

Even square dance is super fun. Bennett and I were in a heritage dance group for a little while and there was a lot of traditional dance styles….ranging from olllllld irish dance to square dancing. It was so fun.

I love your tattoo! I feel the same way about vintage sewing machines. It makes me so happy to hear that I’m not alone in that!…so if you ever want to make a Brother 1034d necklace, I’m your girl to model it!!
