Have you ever had a moment in your life where you were suddenly like, “I’ve officially achieved greatness.” ?? I didn’t think this moment would ever happen for me but LOOK Y’ALL: there is a pattern with my name on it!! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaas!!!!!
My girl Catherine at Made for Mermaids has been heckled by me for years. They all have, truly, about getting my name on a pattern. I really meant it all in jest, I didn’t think they’d really do it — or that they should do it. It was just fun to tease them. But a month-ish ago Catherine showed me her ideas for a Katy pattern and I was floored at it’s gorgeousness. I’m honored to have my namesake pattern be this one. It’s amazing!!
Let’s call out some of my favorite features:
- FUN SLEEVES!! There’s a bishop sleeve option, as well as a fitted sleeve and I am in LOVE with the bishop version. LOVE.
- Awesome necklines — mock turtleneck for when I’m feeling a little fancy, and obvs the lower scoop neckline for every other moment of my life.
- Multiple lengths….especially the dresses but the fact that there’s a perfectly place shirt length is just the tops.
My first version of the Katy (whoop whoop!) pattern was in a dress length, as made obvious by the cover photo and these images I’m sharing right now, haha. I had this vision for the perfect holiday dress and rushed to the store to find some crushed velvet. I pretend to not like crushed velvet…and yet some of my favorite dresses are made with it. So, there’s that.
The side knot feature looks like it would make this pattern a tricky sew, but it’s actually drafted in a super genius way. I love that it adds a little ruching almost to the front to disguise my tummy a bit and accentuate my waist. The dress length is such a perfect fit, honestly. It’s body skimming but not body hugging and that back seaming just makes the fit so comfortable. I’m a fan. Can you tell?
Oh and those SLEEVES!!! I can’t say enough times how enamored I am with fun sleeves. I even love them so much that I’m willing to gather a million sleeves just so I have more like this in my closet. It’s just so much more fun to wear something with a little movement and added details.
I was making a joke with Bennett about these photos, realizing maybe I should have put some nylons on because I look like a floating red dress with no body. My legs are SO PALE in these photos and the dress is so deliciously red. It’s such a funny contrast! #palepeopleproblems
Are you sold on the Katy yet? You should be!! Go snag this pattern for yourself and make a Katy dress. You know you want to!
