Charleston Crossover by Patterns for Pirates

Yayayayayayay! I am super duper excited to share that today is a Patterns for Pirates release day AND it’s for a pattern that I’ve designed under that brand! BEST DAY EVER!!!

Named after the capitol of West Virginia, the Charleston Crossover is all the good things I could think of to shove into one dress pattern and I’m in love with it.

The Charleston Crossover is a faux-wrap dress and peplum. The crossover bodice is finished with a knit binding and is form-fitting throughout the sleeves, bust and waist. It meets at the wearer’s natural waistline and flares out with a half circle skirt, for an oversized fit at the hips. The pattern features multiple skirt lengths, with the option for colorblocking or keeping it all one fabric. There are also four sleeve options to choose from, allowing you to make something suitable for any season!

Pattern options for the Charleston Crossover include:

Multiple sleeve lengths (Tank / Short / Three-Quarter / Long)
Plain skirt lengths (Peplum / Mini / Knee / Maxi)
Colorblocked skirt lengths (Knee / Maxi)
Optional In-Seam Pockets

I made a ton during testing, so let’s not waste any more time and talk about all of the different ones I made!

First up is the Peplum version, with short sleeves, in a yummy ribbed knit.

The next version I created is a mini length, with short sleeves + pockets, in a rayon/spandex blend. This one is quite possibly my favorite.

I’ve got a fun story about this next one. It’s a knee length, colorblocked skirt with short sleeves in a super special fabric!

My cousin’s daughter just completed her freshman year of design school and I’ve been following along her journey, excited to see her learning things that I do daily in my world. Seriously…like, she had a lesson in pleating. I died. It’s amazing to watch. Anyway. One day, she shared a lesson she’d completed in creating a repeating pattern for a textile and had mockups of the pattern being used in different ways. And I IMMEDIATELY messaged her and was like “Amelia….send me the file for your repeating pattern you created. Don’t ask why.”

Long story short. I sent the file to be printed on this gorgeous ribbed knit by Raspberry Creek Fabrics and Custom Printing (and also made a coordinating stripe to go with it) and then sewed it up into the first Charleston Crossover dress I made during the testing/developing process!

I created another knee length and I was super excited about this version too. The only downfall is that it’s way too warm outside to wear it. BUT it’s going to be the perfect fall dress and I can’t wait until I can pull it out this year when the season changes!

It’s a knee length, long sleeve, plain skirt with pockets in a sweater knit from JoAnn Fabrics.

The final dress version I created is completely not my style but I was excited to make nonetheless. I just don’t wear maxi dresses, but I love them on basically everyone else. I did think it was SO FUN to pick the fabrics for the skirt and might consider trying to wear it for a whole day…but chances are this is going to someone I know.

It’s a colorblocked maxi length with the tank version in a bunch of dbp fabrics I found at JoAnn Fabrics. And it’s super cute. It’s just not for me….waaaaaah.

AND….because I am such a lover of skirts, I created a waistband hack (found in THIS BLOG POST HERE) and made a skirt separate. Which I’m now obsessed with and need to make more of because it’s fabulous. Especially paired with this Tie Up Top, don’t you think?
