A ‘Tumble Leaf’ Halloween.

Oct 31, 2014

Last night was trick-or-treating in Wheeling.  Holy cow did we have fun.

But first…we had to get dressed!

Bennett and I got to be the supporting characters of Louis’ Fig the Fox character from Tumble Leaf.  Bennett was a hedgehog named “Hedge” and I was a pink bear named “Maple”.  The costumes aren’t exactly something you can find in a store, and we aren’t exactly people who buy costumes.  So these babies were all put together from scratch (minus Bennett’s jeans, of course).  I think we did pretty great!

Did you know that finding a simple fishing/utility vest is impossible?  I had no idea!  I went to Wal-Mart thinking they’d have something for me to complete Maple’s costume with in the fishing/hunting department.  Nope.  I was mildly in a panic last night because I didn’t have it together…and then we decided to cut apart an old, ripped pair of Bennett’s khaki pants.  Tada!  A vest was born!

The best part of making you own costumes (besides the fact that they’re guaranteed to be unique) is that the cost can stay down pretty low.  I think for all three of us, it only cost around $50 for the costumes in total.  No too shabby at all.  Plus we made them out of mostly fleece so they were super warm to wear while walking around in the cold-ish dark last night during trick-or-treating.

Speaking of trick-or-treating, we were lucky enough to be invited over to our friends’ house to join in on their festivities.  Louis had a BLAST.  We all did.  This is the first year of trick-or-treating for our kiddo that it hasn’t rained on us…so that added to the fun experience.  But there were also three other cute kiddos his age for him to play with before we headed out, to run to the doors with and to share in the excitement of Halloween with.  So fun.  I’d do it all over again if I could.

Happy Halloween!!
