Michigan.

Aug 12, 2015

My family is completely widespread across the greater part of US so it’s not often that we can get together.  My Dad messaged us way back in January and said that he wanted to make sure we get the whole crew in one spot this summer so we shifted some plans and cleared our calendars for early August.

While we were still missing our oldest sibling, we had a big mix of Boltzes under one roof for an entire weekend up North.  It was just what the doctor ordered.

I failed to take a lot of pictures during it all.  Sometimes it’s better to just unplug and enjoy the moment, rather than try and capture it.  But I do wish I had a few more…like some of my Dad and his grandbabies.  Or myself with my Dad.  Sigh.  Oh well.

I did get a picture of Bennett applying bugspray.  Because that’s important, haha.  We tried to have a bonfire but the bugs were out. of. control. that evening.  Not even the mosquitoes.  Just the gnats that apparently didn’t give two craps about whatever spray we had applied.  So no s’mores were had.

I need to go back and dig up a picture that was similar to these next two, from a few years ago.  Same kiddos, same truck.  But MaKale was driving Louis around and I was just as nervous then as I was now…watching my own kiddo be the driver.  Oh my heart.

Michigan decided it didn’t want to give us super warm weather in August, which was really okay with me because I’m actually ready for fall.  But we were found mostly wearing long pants on the second day we were there.

We also got to celebrate Louis’ birthday a little early with the family.  Louis was ALL about having a bonus party.  (We even got a special dance party show from the three youngest.  Which was awesome and hysterical and adorable.)

I always wish that the drive to see my family members was a shorter one.  So we could do it with less effort and not have to make such a big trip out of everything.  Perhaps its a little my fault for falling in love with West Virginia and staying here.  Whoops.  I just wish we could get to Michigan more often and take in the beauty up there without feeling rushed through it all.

I’d also love to really show Louis around my old, tiny town.  Take him to a football game at the high school where I used to be the head cheerleader.  Get him a Pumpkin Pie Flurry (made of real pumpkin pie, crust and all!) from the Dairy Depot.  And just breathe in that town that I ran away from over a decade ago.
