Blair + Mama Blair by Made for Mermaids

Feb 26, 2016

Woohoo!  Another Made for Mermaids release day is here.  And it’s a darling pattern, as usual.  I was a lucky duck that got to test out both this time around…the Blair AND the Mama Blair.  I borrowed my adorable niece, Annie, for photos and she got a sweet top with it.  Not too shabby of a deal, eh?

The Blair has a scooped v-neck with raglan sleeves.  And a bunch of the options include an adorable flounce at the bottom.  I’m pretty smitten.

Let’s talk the Mama version first.

Several sleeve lengths, high-low/tunic/ruffled tunic/top length hems, and an optional pocket are included.  The fit is super flattering…it’s fitted at the chest and then flairs out a bit at the hips, so it just skims you without being tight or baggy.  It’s a winner.

I made the ruffled tunic length, in 3/4 sleeves.  In a million years, I never thought I would like a ruffled hem on me.  I don’t know why.  Maybe it’s because I hate gathering (I really do) but I honestly like this a lot.  I made three tops total during testing, two of the styles were thrown out, but there was a good bit of ruffling on all three and I puffy heart all of my new tops.

Don’t be intimidated by the vneck.  In fact, embrace it.  I was MASTERFUL at some of them.  And not so masterful at others.  This was one of the in-betweeners.  But I doubt a non-sewist would even look twice at my neckline.

I’m also a fan, in general, of raglan sleeves.  If you’ve followed my blog or sewing in the least bit, you’d know that I love to mix/match my patterns.  I love mixing and matching the most with raglan sleeves, that’s for sure.

Might I mention that I love the weather for giving me one day of sunshine and warmth so I could get these photos in.  I miss outdoor photos that I’m not freezing my butt off during.  And sunshine.

^^I’m not sure what was so funny.  I must just find myself hysterical…since no one else ever seems to.

And now onto the girl’s version of the Blair.  Modeled, of course, by my gorgeous niece.

Annie’s hem is called the “Rainbow Hem” and it is ADORABLE on her.  Though, when you use a sheer fabric like I did on the ruffle, the rainbow hem comes up above the belly button.  So for school related activities, it’s a must to wear a tank under it.  Otherwise, it’s still pretty conservative, all things considered.

I was tickled pink that Annie wanted to let me make her something.  From what I understand, those tween girls aren’t the easiest to please sometimes, haha.  But she seemed to like this top a lot (and has even agreed to let me make her more)!  Woot!
