Steel City Comic Con 2016

Apr 19, 2016

My Momma’s Christmas gift to Bennett this year was tickets to the Steel City Comic Con.  Somehow, in all of our epic nerdiness, this family has never attended a Comic Con before.  I’m so glad that Mom sent us there!  It was SO MUCH FUN.

We didn’t know exactly what to expect, and I’m sure each Comic Con is different everywhere you go.  Star Wars was a HUGE influence in the event.  Of course, it’s the latest in epic movies…but also Star Wars is just awesome.  Duh.

Louis, Bennett and I repped Star Wars as well.  Not in a cosplay element, but more of an “inspired by” kind of way.

By far, the highlight of our day was our interaction with Anthony Daniels.

I’m sorry.  Did I say ‘Anthony Daniels’?  I meant: ANTHONY FREAKING DANIELS.
Who is he?  Uh…ever heard of a droid named C-3PO?  He is the actor and voice actor for the most endearingly, sweet, and annoying droid in all seven of the Star Wars movies, as well as several animated shows/movies/series.

Louis was wearing the top from his C-3PO costume that I made for the Top Stitchers contest.  We were waiting in (a long, long) line to get an autograph from Mr. Daniels and he walked out to take a break, or make an scheduled appearance, or whatever he was doing.  As he walked past us, he saw Louis.  Stopped.  Pointed straight at him and said “I’m going to take a picture with you when we get back.”

LIFE. MADE.
C-3PO, in the flesh.  Wanted a picture with OUR SON.  He even handed Bennett his camera so he could have a picture himself.  Seriously.  We were over the moon.  He even positioned Louis’ arms so they were like C-3PO and did a small shuffle just like he does in the movies.  It was ten shades of awesome.

Mr. Daniels also gave Louis a special autographed photo, signing it, “Louis, the Force is very strong in you.”  I’m still giddy over the whole experience.  What a sweet, sweet man.

While we were in line for the autograph, we spent a lot of time next to one of the Storm Troopers, with the 501st Legion.  It was awesome to see him be so willing to take a picture with anyone who asked.  And we got to chat about Star Wars nerdery, as well as the construction of his suit, what goes on with the 501st, how much of a SW fan his girlfriend is, etc.  The only regret I have is not actually getting his name so we could send him some of these photos.

Surprisingly, we didn’t take a ton of photos.  The ones we did get were ALL Star Wars characters.  Haha.  No surprise there.

I think Louis enjoyed the day just as much as we did.  His shirt set him apart a little bit and kiddo kept getting high fives and had people taking pictures of him all the time.  It was cute.  Our little celebrity.
