Bellisima Mundo by RP Custom Fabrics

That Sara from RP Custom Fabrics...she just knows how to make some really amazing fabrics!  Her newest round of custom prints (going up for pre-order TOMORROW!!) is "Bellisima Mundo" and is seriously the coolest round ever.

I will have a lot more to share of the Bellisima fabrics in the coming days, but I'll talk about these two prints for now.  Because they're worth highlighting on their own.

It's possible that this is my favorite dress that I've made in a while.  For a few reasons.  First...I freaking love the Sweetheart Dress from Patterns for Pirates.  It hits me perfectly at the high-waist, the bodice (yes, I dropped the neckline to open it up a bit for my larger bust) is such a great fit, and circle skirts are just so darn flirty.  There's no way to not feel adorable when you're wearing a circle skirt, no matter how old or young you are.

I've made about a billion Sweetheart Peplums and Dresses at this point, but this is my FIRST sleeveless one.  I have no idea why I haven't made this version of the top yet.  I mean, I've even made it out of a black leather looking fabric, as a crop top, and blinged it out to look like Lady Gaga on stage!  But not sleeveless.  Because that would just be crazy.

Let's talk about the fabric now, shall we?

RP is launching an entire set of "rounds" tomorrow.  They are literally round prints, which I can't say I've seen done before.  They're super easy to incorporate into a circle skirt like what I did here, but can be used so many other ways.  Just wait to see what the other strikeoff sewists have done...including myself!  I've got some fun alternative ways to use some circle panels of RP's, I just need to photograph them and share!

Often, if you have a directional print for a circle skirt, half of it is upside down unless you have a seam in your skirt on the sides.  But they way these are printed, it's literally like the world map!  Everything falls perfectly around you once you cut your waist into the middle of it.  It falls into place beautifully and is so much fun!

Of course I wanted to position the United States front and center on my skirt.  Which meant freaking Russia is spelled out across my butt.  Poor Russia, you didn't know you'd be a current trigger word when you were printed on this map...but you totally are.  And I put you right above my ass.  Sigh.

The bodice print is a small panel that I squeaked into my Sweetheart dress.  I am not 100% sure the sizes that Sara is settling on, but I do love that I was able to basically fit the entire world onto my dress.  I have a larger version of "Mapa" as well, which is gorgeous, but it wouldn't have had the same amount of print if I'd chosen to use it.  So it'll be interesting to see what gets picked for sizes of everything!

Regardless, I'm predicting this round of prints to be big for Team RP.  Each and every one of them is even cooler than the next.  I can't wait to see when everyone starts making things with their own goodies!
