AHHHHH! Happy Release Day at Patterns for Pirates, y’all! [enter celebration emojis here]
Technically, Judy just released TWO patterns today. The Sophia Pencil Skirt and the Bacall Bodysuit (both named after famous Loren/Laurens), but I’m a total slacker and only sewed up one of the patterns. Which one? The Bacall Bodysuit, of course! The pencil skirt is on my radar, as soon as I get some fabric that’s appropriate for it. I didn’t have anything in my stash that was screaming to be turned into a pencil skirt…and the Holiday Freebies totally kicked my butt. So here we are.
Anywho. Let’s talk about the Bacall Bodysuit!

The Bacall Bodysuit is….a bodysuit! Who could have guessed? It’s a classic, tight fitting bodysuit with about a million sleeve finishing options and a handful of necklines, PLUS different finishes for the legline. Bodysuits are all the rage still and I understand why. It makes layering with skirts a breeze…no tucking in necessary!
And before you even think to ask about how you pee in this, Judy had you covered. Every option is finished with a hook + eye closure at the front crotch, so you can unhook – pee – rehook – and move along with your day. Great news, right?

Pattern options for the Bacall Bodysuit include:
- Sleeves: Unline + Lined Tank | Fitted Short, 3/4, Cuffed + Hemmed Long Sleeve | Gathered Short, 3/4 + Long
- Necklines: Crew Lined | Crew Neckband | Mock Turtleneck | Turtleneck
- Lengths: Crop | Thong Bodysuit | Brief Bodysuit
- Fully Lined | Un-Lined
- All Bodysuits Finish with Hook and Eye Closure
So which options did I pick? So glad you asked! I sewed up a fully lined, thong bodysuit with a crew neckline + long, gathered bishop sleeves. And I LOVE it!
I ended up pairing it with a skirt that I already had cut out. It’s part of a dress pattern that I’ll be releasing in January…and the colors kinda worked out for me, so I stole it for this outfit instead. This fabric pairing is LOUD, but so am I. So it works, right?
Pattern: Bacall Bodysuit by Patterns for Pirates
Fabric: a random find in Walmart’s bargain bin. Best guess…it’s a rayon/spandex blend.
