WCDS Annual Dinner & Auction

Mar 23, 2015

Oh my gosh, I love Louis’ school so much.  It is incredible to be a part of the Country Day family and I’m so excited to see how exactly Bennett and I can fit into the hustle and bustle of it all.  The school itself has a very child-based education system…where each child has their own challenges and strengths played upon by their caring and amazing teachers and staff.  One meeting with the head master and I was sold for life.  I drank the koolaid.  They’re going to have a tough time getting rid of us if they try.

Saturday was our first time attending the PFA’s annual dinner and auction.  Holy cow was it a hoot!  We had so much fun.  And it was nice to have a night out, sans kiddo.  Of course we love our time with Lou, but sometimes it’s nice to have a mini-break and have adult conversations.  Every parent understand this.  And we were in a room full of them.

The school was working on raising funds to revamp their gym and any monies from that night were going straight to those efforts.  There were so many amazing things to bid on that I’m sure they didn’t have too many problems getting people to open their wallets and help the school out.  There was a silent auction with more baskets than I had ever expected to walk in and see.  Seriously.  It was crazy and I loved all of the themed baskets that were there.  A tea party set, coffee sets, 80’s movies, girls room decorations, spa packages, movie night goodies….the works.  I submitted my first ever auction basket and was insanely nervous about doing so.  I had this horrible fear that no one would bid on my basket full of West Virginia themed goodies.  No worries.  They did.  Glad I could help a little!

The live auction portion was incredible to watch.  No joke.  First of all, the art teachers had each grade create collective art pieces that were available for bidding upon.  Holy potatoes, I would basically hang any of them on my walls, no questions asked.  They were AMAZING.  I especially loved the piece that was done by Louis’ grade.  Gorgeous.

Bennett and I were trying to scout out other JK3 parents so we could strong arm them from bidding because we really wanted to take it home with us.  Apparently we aren’t scary enough.  Sadly, the first bid that happened was higher than what we were willing to spend…so we didn’t get to make our dream a reality.  But I’m still glad I got to see it.  So awesome.  The bidding wars were crazy and hysterical.  I’m so glad we got to experience it.

It was a fun crowd of which to be a member.  The entire night happened thanks to the PFA.  It was so fun to watch the PFA head and the hysterical/talented caller shake people down for bids.  Not to mention watching the magic of Liz H-L up on stage.  Louis and all of the kiddos at Country Day are so lucky to have Mrs. H-L in their lives.  If you’ve ever wanted to see a beautiful, smart, empowered woman doing the thing she does best…go to this school and watch this woman work.  I have crazy amounts of respect and adoration for her.

And can we talk for a second, PFA?  Are you trying to hint at something by sitting us at this table?  I mean…

Thanks for a great night, Country Day.  We will be back for another round for sure!

That looks like so much fun! I wish my school did fundraisers like that instead of the typical gift wrap/chocolates. I'm sure my parents would have appreciated something like this a lot more.

And can we talk about the yoga inversion on a hard wood stage in jeans and a button down? Talent. Haha.
