Endless Summer Bucket Shorts by Rabbit Rabbit Creations

Jul 6, 2015

pssst! If you stick around until the end of this post, you have a chance to win three patterns!

Whoever says that sewing for boys isn’t fun must be doing it wrong.  Because I have a blast sewing for Louis.  And he loves that I sew for him.  It’s a win-win.

Louis has been really into playing video games since this past Christmas.  Santa surprised him with Disney Infinity 2.0 and he and his Daddy have basically been playing that non-stop for the last six months.  That, and now they’ve downloaded a couple of Lego games to play on the PS3 and Louis is always talking 4-year old strategy about the games.  And he watches YouTube videos of other people playing his video games…and then tries to figure out how to replicate what they’re doing.

This isn’t something that’s going away.  Bennett loves video games and loves that Louis plays them with him.  When I found this gamer fabric at JoAnns, I HAD to buy it.  It’s perfection for my little dude.

This was my first go-round with the Endless Summer Bucket Shorts from Rabbit Rabbit Creations and I am dying over them.  DYING.  They are basically the cutest pair of pants he owns now.  The pockets are a huge selling point of this pattern.  They scream Louis to me, because he always seems to have a million things that he is collecting.  Now he has extra room to collect and carry them.

The pattern is an easy one to follow and could be utilized for so many different fabric combos and features.  I chose to keep it a little more simple with a khaki base so the pockets with the super fun gamer fabric would be highlighted.  At this age, still having an elastic, gathered waist is totally cool with me.  Because he doesn’t really use a zipper quite yet and Lou’s skinny little waist needs an elastic band that is fitted for him.

Forgive the wrinkles.  He wore these all morning before I photographed them.  So they had some pretty serious use before we got to snap the photos.  Somehow we survived him eating a popsicle without having it dripped all over his clothing.  It’s a Christmas Miracle, I tell ya.

Let’s talk about these pockets again.  Louis was SO EXCITED that he could fit his PS3 controller in it.  And everything else.  While we were at Kroger, he even tried to put the chocolate milk we’d gotten from Starbucks in his pocket.  Yes.  Chocolate milk in his pocket.  I quickly avoided that disaster.  Just because it *can fit* doesn’t mean it should, darling.

Lou wanted a couple more shots of him “getting Green Goblin in the Lego Avengers game” and “being a super hero”, so I of course complied.

I mean, how could I say no to those baby blues?
