Mama Mya Top by Made for Mermaids

Jan 19, 2016

Eep!  I got to test my first ever Made for Mermaids pattern!  I’ve only been drooling over all of her designs forever now, but seeing as how I don’t think dresses really fit into Louis’ wardrobe scheme, I’ve just been left to admire from afar.

M4M is releasing their newest patterns today: the Mya and Mama Mya.  Of course, I only tested the women’s version…but it is a MUST to go and see the mother/daughter ones that were sewn together.  All the heart eyes.  All of them.

The Mama Mya comes in three different lengths (top, tunic and dress) and three different sleeves (short, 3/4, and long) for a mixy-matchy heaven.  It’s a relaxed fit top, and incredibly flattering.  Even for someone who has, um, a lot happening up top.  Haha.  The cut is just right so it doesn’t balloon out and make me look pregnant.  Which I am not, don’t get your hopes up Mom!!

The pattern whips up sooooo quickly that I made two in the same morning.
First up was  a tunic length, cowl neck shirt with 3/4 length sleeves (stripes are a ponte from Girl Charlee HERE and the floral is a rayon blend from Fabric.com, which isn’t appearing on their site at the moment.)

The tunic length is totally my jam.  It’s a curved hem and falls just to the right place on my body.  So I don’t feel like I’m being swallowed up by it, but it’s still long enough to cover my tush.  This particular top has already heavily been in rotation and I only really made it about a week ago, haha.  Whoops.

I also put together a dress.  You guys.  A simple, flattering, a-line dress?  Yes.  Give me more of these.  Just maybe turn up the temperature outside because I’m already tired of the cold.

This version is the dress length (obvs), short sleeves and regular neckband.  Don’t let the lace fool you!  It’s just a shirt I layered underneath so I could stand the cold for photos.  Although, I do love the look.

This pale green is so out of my usual color scheme.  It’s soft and simple and plain.  So I felt the need to add some layers to dress it up, but I do love this dress.  A lot.  The fabric is actually a heavy wool knit that was just recently handed down to me from Bennett’s grandmother’s stash.  It was my first go-round with wool but I totally see the appeal to it.  Hellooooo sweater season!

I love where the dress hits me, although it’d be super easy to shorten or lengthen to your preference.  The pattern calls for more drapey fabrics…but obviously I can’t always follow the rules.  And to be honest, this is the least drapey fabric ever and it still rocks.  Am I right?

The Mama Mya is going to be sewn up at least 23049830298 more times by me.  Simple, well fitting, forgiving (!!) tops are just what my closet needs to be filled with.

This is SO cute. I have so many top patterns but I feel like I need to add this to my arsenal. I’m in my third trimester and really starting to think about sewing things for my post-baby body. This top looks perfect. Love both your versions!
