WCDS Celebrate

Mar 22, 2016

I think the saying goes: If you theme it, they will come.

No?  That’s not it?  Well…it should be.  Because Louis’ school had their annual fundraising event over the weekend and it was 20’s speakeasy themed and it was AMAZING.  Last year, we had a ball.  But this year was something extra special.  (Maybe they chose well in renaming the event to Celebrate!)

And don’t worry.  Of course I took to the sewing machine and made Bennett’s and my outfits.  Because sewing.

Bennett and I snuck in a little early to take some pictures of the shindig.  It was all so incredible.  The PFA did their research and went above and beyond for everything.  But.  AHEM.  The table name that they sat us at this year?  #someoneisintrouble #notreally #butreallyguys

The details on the event blew me away.  Every nook and cranny of the pre-party room was covered in 20’s themed items.  They had wanted posters, a custom built bar, a delicious signature drink, a poker table, gorgeous “flapper girls” walking around selling chips…the works.

I’ll admit that I wasn’t sure if Bennett and I would show up and be the only people dressed in theme or not.  And not that it would have made us miss a step, but it was excellent to see so many people having fun with their dress.  I don’t think I’ve seen so many bowties, vests, fringe, and sequins in one room.  And it was a room full of adults!

So. Much. Fun.

The poker table was never empty.  Not once.  If I could pretend to know something about poker, maybe I would have been there too….but I’m not exactly a card shark.

I told you that they didn’t skimp on details, right?  They even had a couple of the men dress in trenchcoats and pretend to be the police, breaking up the “illegal drinking and gambling”.  I mean, it was the prohibition, of course!

After the cocktails, and the poker, and the delicious appetizers, we were sent into the gym for dinner and the live auction.  Not only did they have teacher experiences, baskets, and art up for grabs…but Bennett and I were also asked to photograph each of the grades and create canvas art of the gorgeous kiddos that make up the school.

Nine grades of beautiful faces were printed out on canvases.  I seriously love each of the pieces that we managed to capture and create.  I hope that the parents did too!!

Pssst….if you want, we have the canvases available to purchase HERE (password: wcds) and the proceeds still will be going to the WCDS PFA.

If you’ve never experienced a live auction before, the only way I’d recommend experiencing it would be in this form.  People are there to give money to the school and support the education of our future leaders.  And it’s all in good fun…so the level of jokes and harassment from the auctioneers is at an all time high.

We absolutely loved our entire evening at the Celebrate event.  (Almost as much as I love these photos of Liz HL, the headmaster of the school.)

Thanks for a great night, Country Day!  Looking forward to doing it all over again next year.

**We have all of the images that we photographed during the event online HERE (password: wcds) in case you want to go snag a photo or two.
