I was sent some fabrics by RP Custom Fabrics and seriously couldn’t wait to stitch them up into something for Louis and me. (Sorry Bennett, you’ve been left out again.) RP is running a line of pre-order fabrics right now that is called “Happy or Hungry” and is filled with fun prints of foods like doughnuts, pizza, hamburgers, tacos, and various candies.
I was sent the “jumbo sized” versions of doughnuts and pizza and here’s what I made out of them!
First up was a Patterns for Pirates Sweet Tee that I color blocked with that hysterically awesome doughnut fabric. Sometimes when you’re a strike-off sewist for these fabric companies, they only send you a fat half of something to work with. It sometimes throws me for a loop, but it’s also a fun challenge to see how I can make a new clothing piece out of it. I sketched out this shirt on a post-it note, in hopes that it would end up as cute as I’d pictured it. And it totally did!
I love how the dolman of the sweet tee provides for a little extra fabric to carry over onto the arm, before I broke it up with the grey. And then the stripes on the pocket and sleeves just adds a little more fun to the whole look.
The second fabric sent to me was the jumbo pizza print. It was a rainy, gross day and I needed to take indoor pictures….and we had leftover pizza in the fridge. So I figured “why not” and these pictures happened. Haha. Sorry?
RP prints on a 220gsm-250gsm 95%/5% cotton lycra knit. So it’s thick and stretchy and easy to work with. You wouldn’t want to use it for something that required drape, but it works great for my P4P Slimfit Raglan. Most of sewing is knowing how to pair the right fabric to the right pattern. And once you’ve got that down, you can go wild.
Because I had enough, I couldn’t resist making Louis a pizza shirt as well. Actually, his was made first. There aren’t many times in our lifetime that we will have “matching” shirts that we take pictures in. Hopefully he doesn’t look back later in life and yell at me about it.
Ever since I took the plunge and started adding my designs in digital format to the shop, I’ve been having a lot of fun doing extra handlettered designs too. This pizza one was created riiiight before Sara announced her new lineup of fabrics. It was like a match made in heaven, am I right?
“You Had Me at Pizza” cracks me up. And, much to my surprise, everyone seems to be loving it too! I never know if people appreciate my weird humor, or my doodles-turned-tshirts. Apparently everyone loves pizza so it wasn’t a hard sell.
Of course I won’t be leaving you without links to everything!
