Watcha Wearin January | Week 1

Jan 7, 2017

Welcome to Watcha Wearin January, hosted by the lovely Tibeca of Sewing By Ti!!  With the new year, there are a lot of new resolutions.  One that we’ve seen floating around the sewing world a lot is that people want to stop being such sewing-group lurkers, and actually take some of that inspiration and sew more for themselves.  We are here to help!

A bunch of the ladies on the tour have sewn new clothes, and shown you how to create capsule pieces that will be functional and live in your wardrobes for all of eternity.  I am here, to show you how truly possible it is to function with an entire closet full of handmade clothing.  I’ll be coming back every Saturday to recap my weekly wears…and I’ll provide as many links to patterns and fabrics as I can!  Pinkie swear.

I work from home…and it’s winter.  So my wardrobe this time of year consists of skinny pants and shirts that have curved hems, or at least come down in the back enough to cover my bum.  That’s all I really need.  I want my figure to show but I want to be comfy.  And because our house is INSANELY cold and drafty, I want to be mostly covered.  Pretty easy to acheive, right?

Jan 1: It was Sunday, and the day after I drank and ate too much.  So comfy was required.  I slipped on my M4M Mama Mya (in a sweet sweater knit from JoAnn Fabrics).  And for the bottoms, I chose to wear my coveted P4P SOS Pants, in a stretch denim.  The pants were blogged about on THIS TOUR if you’d like to check them out and get all the links!

Jan 2: I wore one of my favorite graphic tees, which happens to be a P4P Slimfit Raglan.  Of course, I opened the neckline on it a little (or a lot)…I always do, haha.  But I can’t help myself.  I made this shirt last March for St. Patrick’s Day but find myself wearing it all the time.  The sleeves are from GirlCharlee.com and the grey is a thin sweater knit from Fabric.com.

My pants are just a skinny jean from Walmart?  Maybe?  I still have yet to find a perfect stretch denim fabric to make my perfect real denim pants.  I’ve heard great things about the Closet Case Ginger Jeans, but I still struggle with the fabric side of it.  So it’s sitting on the back burner for now.

Jan 3: Oh how I love to wear plaid.  Especially buffalo plaid.  And especially this shirt.  I made it and blogged how to create this faux-sweetheart style look on my blog December 2015.  It’s created with the P4P Women’s Henley…obviously without the henley placket.

The henley is my go-to for traditional, set-in sleeves, with a more traditional tshirt fit.  It’s still relaxed enough in the body that I have wiggle room, but it’s still semi body skimming and I adore the fit of it.

Jan 4: Again with my coveted buffalo plaid.  This is another P4P Women’s Henley.  I know, I know.  I’m a broken record.  But when I find a pattern that fits me well, I use it over and over and over again.  Switching up little things, or just using different fabrics, is all you need to create an entire wardrobe out of not-that-many patterns.  I blogged this shirt back in November 2015 for our Wear to Where? winter tour.

These pants are just a stretch jegging from Walmart.  Yikes!  All this Walmart pimping, haha.  They are closest to the Patterns for Pirates SOS pants and if I could find the proper black fabric (or remember to look for it when shopping online) I would make some of my own.  So comfy.  So good to wear to work and I think they are more appropriate than leggings.

Jan 5: Another style repeat.  I can’t help myself!  This is the P4P Slimfit Raglan in a french terry with floral ponte sleeves.  If I could live in french terry all day, every day, I would.  It’s so soft and cozy.  And you feel like you’re wearing a sweatshirt but you don’t look like you are.  It’s a dream.

My pants are the same as from the day before.  Well, not the same pair….haha.  I tend to buy multiples of something if I like them.  And with black pants, I will buy up the whole store if I find ones I like!

Jan 6: Woohoo!  A new style today, haha.  I stuck with the skinny jeans…I have so many skinnies in my dresser.  Pants are the only thing I buy anymore.  I can’t tell you the last time I bought a shirt for myself from the store.  It would just feel so wrong.  And most likely it’d never get worn.

My top is the M4M Mama Joy.  I made this one during testing and it’s the first time I’ve worn it.  I’m not sure why.  The entire top is made from French Terry and it’s delightfully comfortable to wear.  I blogged this entire shirt and linked all of my fabrics in my post HERE.

Jan 7:  What am I wearing today?  Well….another P4P Women’s Henley.  Hahaha.  I should hang my head in shame.  I think this is the third henley in one week.  Whoops.  This shirt is made with a poly/rayon/spandex ribbed knit from JoAnns and is so comfy to wear.  And I love the color of it so much.  I blogged this shirt when we released the joggers pattern with Patterns for Pirates!  So you can see more pictures and find the link to the fabric in THIS post.

I’ll be back this time next week to share what I wore for the second week of January!  I hope you come back and visit me!
