Big Nice Wolf

Feb 4, 2017

Louis was home due to a school break on Friday, Bennett was at school all day, and I was home with Lou….trying to get some work done while having him in my studio.  It wasn’t an easy task.  So many requests and distractions.  And he spilled his drink on my cutting table THREE times.  Three.  It was a red drink and it got everywhere.  Three times, it got everywhere.

Instead of getting angry and freaking out like I wanted to, I decided to task Louis with designing his own outfit that we could make together.  He checked out the fabrics that I had laying around, grabbed some markers and got to designing.  After crossing out three of his illustrations, he came up with this.  So cute.

Specifically, he wanted to be a wolf.  He’s been wanting a wolf-eared headband for a while now.  I think one of the girls at school wore cat ears once and it’s all he’s been able to think about.   So guess what we did?  We took Louis’ drawing and made him exactly what he’d asked for!

He’s no “Big Bad Wolf”…because Louis told me he’s the “Big Nice Wolf”.  He even drew a silly face in his picture.  So calling him Big, Bad was out of the question.  But I did get him to give me a tough guy look in this picture, haha.

And it was almost cheating that we had this fabulous wolf fabric from RP Custom Fabrics already in my stash.  It’s perfect, though.  Right?  My little wolf pack leader loved his shirt enough that he wanted to wear it immediately.  And also kept his ears on the rest of the day.

Forever, I’m going to cherish these moments with the kiddo.  Even if he does spill red drink all over my desk THREE TIMES.  (But who is keeping track of that anyway?)  Being able to take something he designed in his head and turn it into an outfit that he wants to wear is the coolest.  It wasn’t groundbreaking what we made.  But we made it together.
