Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice

Jul 4, 2017

I know, I know.  It’s barely July and I’m wearing and sewing pumpkin clothes.  But hear me out!!

First.  Pumpkin flavored things should exist year round.  Because it’s delicious.  Second.  It’s hot as hades outside and the humidity is on threat level suck.  So all I want is fall to happen for me.  Third. This fabric is ah-dorable and needs to be shared, wether you’re ready for the change in season yet or not.

When Danielle from the Fabric Cottage showed me this fabric, I knew I would love it.  But once it arrived, it was like eight billion degrees outside with one-thousand percent humidity.  No exaggeration.  And my sewing mojo was super low.

I was searching for some inspiration, threw some of my coordinate fabrics together, and then stole a look at the Made for Mermaids Mama Cassie.  Specifically some of the gorgeous off-the-shoulder dresses and tops that my friend Catherine had made for herself.  BINGO.  It needed to happen!

I followed the pattern exactly, except for the top band.  I used the same measurements in the instructions for the band, but replaced it with super wide stretch elastic (from Surge Fabric Shop!) and overlapped it about halfway through the width of the lace.

I LOVE THIS TOP SO MUCH.  And now that I’ve done this once, I think it’s perfectly acceptable to make more with the other laces I have floating around the house.  Because having to wait until October to wear this top is going to be torture.

Next time, I think I’ll taper the neckline a little more and cut the lace at an angle where it meets, so it pulls in a little more at the top.  I actually don’t mind that it sticks up a little off my shoulders, but it never hurts to try and perfect this a little more, now does it?

^^If you’re wondering why I have a crazy face in some of these photos…just blame the heat and me deciding it was a good idea to take outdoor photos in a 3/4 sleeve top and jeans.  I’ll be rocking a much happier smile when I’m drinking my pumpkin coffee and not dying from heat exhaustion come fall.

The decision is yours, and whether or not you decide to buy something is completely up to you.  Purchasing from my links does not alter the pricing in any way for you, it simply helps feed my sewing, creating and blogging habits.  Thank you for your support!
